2 flags in 17 years at the 2 most well resourced clubs is not such a great success rate. (I'm not counting his years at Footscray).Sainternist wrote:We NEED Malthouse. The others can get stuffed.
I'm not potting Malthouse, I actually reckon he can coach. My point is it's not always the coach at fault. The players need to take responsibility for their performances; it's a cop out and too easy to just blame the coach.
We played well in the first quarter (as we usually do) on Sunday. But for errant kicking (a chronic issue for us) we would have been 4 or 5 goals up. The gameplan looked OK then, didn't it? Do you reckon RL told the players to stop working hard in Q2 and Q3? I doubt it. But the game was over as a contest as soon as the Doggies hit the front. We never looked likely after that.
IMO we have a bunch of players who when the going gets tough lie down rather than roll up their sleeves and work harder, such as Sydney ot Collingwood tend to do. Jeez, even Carlton came back on the weekend. I can't recall the last time we overcame a significant scoreboard deficit to win a game.
Our players are soft. Until they change their attitude/mindset we aren't even close to a top side IMO.
No matter who the coach is.
