fer real SRS?
bloody hutcho would be going through the trash can for medical reciepts or xray proofs before breaking the news that tonight that Ted Whitten Senior has cancer, that jason Dunstall copped a head injury and may play out the year in helmet, also based on results found in the garbage bin, nathan Brown is pregnant, tony lockett WONT be making a comeback, brent harvey had breast reduction surgery and Lou Richards is on steriods.
Hutcho, where old news is new news and wrong news gets an apology after court action

I did not call a press conference - but then I was not a footballer and nobody gave a brass rarzoo except me.
I got a write up on here when I snapped my achilles playing for the saintsational saints!
Yippers knee war injuries in the trenches under heavy gunfire, while wrestling crocodiles and under snow landslide was the stuff of legends.

agree. in footballing terms it's been a tragedy that his body hasn't let him be what he could have been. but that's only in footballing terms.fonz_#15 wrote:play it down all you like, but to me it will be a great shame. maguire at his best is a real asset and whilst we havent seen it for some time, i would just put him on the LTI list and give it onelast crack.

Now I'll be prepared to be howled down if I've got this one wrong, but why on earth would he be announcing his retirement now? He's had a bad run with an injury but he's still got options in getting it right, including some new whizz-bang procedure they're supposedly looking into.
Jeez some people poo their pants at the first sign of something not going quite right. Weak. No character. Not what we need. Show some strength for goodness sake.

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

agreed...it would be pretty soft of him to retire just because something went wrong againctqs wrote:Now I'll be prepared to be howled down if I've got this one wrong, but why on earth would he be announcing his retirement now? he is only 23 and has major time on his side...
however if he was to go to a fair few doctors and they all were to tell him to give it away then thats fine...life deals us harshly sometimes
he is still getting paid a fortune to rehab...so it might be worth hanging on for a little while longer

some have seriously bad memories, penny was a very very good FB during 2004 and 05. Allowed max to play as a back pocket and goose to be an attacking CHB. Shame his knees just could never get right. The club was willing to give him as much time as he needed to get them better but got some advice to not bother and the rest is history.Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:luke penny was s*** thoughSolar wrote:didn't we say the same thing about luke penny?

Penny was a very good Full Back....and would have gotten better.Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:luke penny was s*** thoughSolar wrote:didn't we say the same thing about luke penny?

goose is actually good...
With his knee it was degenerative..and was only going to get worse.
With Goose...we are yet to know the extent of his injury.
However metatarsal injuries are treatable...if are somewhat slow and unpredictable.
The question at present is wheher there is something in addition to the metatarsal break.
If his breaks are related to impact from kicking (ball or another player)...then there will soon be an option to make future breaks less likely.
If it is just the impact from running...then if he has weak bones and it may reoccur...unless they can strengthen the bones by conditioning or other techniques. Drink you milk Goose!!!

there is also the problem of the nerves. This has meant he has no felt the pressure or pain of these additional breaks. Thus unless they can fix this it will be harder for him to rehab.saintsRrising wrote:Penny was a very good Full Back....and would have gotten better.Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:luke penny was s*** thoughSolar wrote:didn't we say the same thing about luke penny?

He hada chronic hip injury which I understand was not treatable...at least in terms of what is required for an elite athlete/footballer.saintly wrote:Danny jacobs retired at the beginning of the season due to injuries. He did not wait until the end of his contract.

ouch
when I was in my early 20s I got cleaned by a car on my motorbike and the clutch foot lever speared my leather boots and went through to the bone on my toe severing the nerve there as well, it felt like pins and needles for years afterwards to touch

Yes I heard the club physio speak on that...but it would not really seem explain why the breaks have occurred.Solar wrote:

It would if he was applying excessive force in some way (ie no warning to ease off like say when you put your finger in a flame)...but you would think not from normal kicking and running...
The soccer experience would tend to indicate that they stem from running too much on harder sand based fields.......
...or from impacts in kicking (like kicking another players shin guard)
...or by having your foot stepped on. ie stops on bone.

alot of rehab relies of response from players. Stress fractures can happen when you are putting to much pressure on a joint that has not healed fully. So if a player cannot give a good response to the pain then it would be hard to know when to start reamping up the trainingsaintsRrising wrote:Yes I heard the club physio speak on that...but it would not really seem explain why the breaks have occurred.Solar wrote:

True...but it was also a different bone this time....not the same one breaking again.Solar wrote:alot of rehab relies of response from players.
