We play our best football with passion, and this is something that Ross Lyon has neglected since coming to the coaches box. Where was he at 3/4 time when our boys needed revving up? Pointing and waving at a whiteboard.

It may be the future of coaching, but not just yet, at least not with this group of players.
This post struck a chord with me.. Passion is something we seem to be lacking.. in major amounts.. I couldnt quite put my finger on it, why players arnt digging in, sharing, blocking etc... Something (or nothing) is not igniting thier passion and unity.. we are playing to a plan, without heart..

There was a single act last night that said more about this team than any thing else we've done.

We were trailing in the last quarter and managed to move the ball fairly quickly through the corridor. The ball ended up in the hands of Charlie Gardiner who was goal side of his opponent between the centre square and the 50m arc. Instead of continuing the run, he decided to stop and hold up the play. We maintained possession chipping around the 50m arc (basketball style) until we made a skill error and turned the ball over.

Gardiner usually tries to create the run and continues it but something made him stop. All things being equal, he would have had Kosi and Roo one out with their opponents with Milne lurking at their feet waiting for a crumb.

It's hard to tell from the TV but if our forwards were not there that means that they were up the ground getting numbers behind the ball when we turned it over.

This is where our game plan falls down. We work hard, pressure the opponent into making a mistake but we have no players inside 50m to capitalise on it.

One of the tall forwards must stay inside our forward 50m. It should be Gehrig or Kosi.

Actually, name me one player that's improved under Lyon's coaching.

Our list to a man has plateaued or gone backwards since Lyon took over as coach.

Yes, we are being poorly coached.
I think this is a very good point.

Who has 'come on'?

Who has been played in a different posi or role and flourished?

Where is the 'Mark McVeigh' at our club? The player who has really stepped up under the new coach?

It hard to believe that so many palyers that have played finals football are not up to it. They've proven they can do the job.

As far as I can see the people with least finals experience at the club is the coaching staff. If you exclude finals as players then there is no experience in current roles.

They may not be up to it. It is possible.

How many coaches are actually good at it? Not many. Most are failures.
Why are people assuming we have appointed the one in however-many that succeed?

Lions
Pies
North
Swans
Crows
Dogs
Hawks
Cats

which of these teams above us on the ladder have better team lists than us?and how many of them would we have beaten last Sat?

certainly not all of them in both cases

cos a champion TEAM will always beat a team of champions

this weeks opponent the tigers are currently 2 points behind us with a better %, and one would think an inferior list
But the way they are "teaming" over the past 4 weeks they would have to be favoured to beat on present form

the $64 question is Y?

In Jack Dyer parlance, we are a ..."good ordinary football team".

We simply don't have the cattle to press for Top 4.

We'll finish around mid-table, close to where we finished last year.

I hate our game plan, we look robotic, uninspired, unhappy and bordering on insipid.

I love my Club with a passion but our continued lack of success is giving me the s***s.

Armo has only played under RL. Gilbert played 2 games before RL arrived so he was always going to improve. Fiora is in the seconds so he hasnt improved. The problem is that none of our so called stars have improved, most have gone backwards.

I see you've fallen for the 'opinion as fact' posts that abound on here from time to time.

For the record (and easily verified)

LYON was an assistant coach at Carlton when they played in finals and then in Sydney when they played finals and won a premiership. (I don't believe a single Saint player, other than the Lyon recruited King and Dempster and Schneider) have played in a premiership tema)

ROCK was the midfield coach for the Demons in 2006 - the same team that defeated us in teh Elimination fainal.

SILVAGNI was the defensive coach for the Bulldogs at one stage as well as a specialist defensive coach/consultant for the Swans.

BARKER I don't know anything about.

SIMON MADDEN is our Ruck coach - he is widely considered to be the 'authority' on ruck coaching.

Have I left any out?

The only thing you've left out was the bit where I said finals experience in their current roles.

I'll concede Anthony Rock has some finals experience as an assistant.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The point being that the staff who we are told cannot execute their job role successfully (the players) actually have a proven track record of being competent enough to be involved in finals.

I don't believe the coaching staff (Anthony Rock aside) have any finals experience in the positions they occupy at our club. Yet it is just assumed by some that they are good at their jobs. Why?

Because we have faith in the people who put them into those jobs.

If we didn't we would have to sack the coach for selecting them,
then sack the Board for selecting the Coach,
then sack the Members for selecting the Board.

Somewhere along the line you have to have some faith.
I do, but this week it seems I am in a very small minority around here.

With respect to teh 'experience' part of your post, how can any rookie coach have any finals experience? The fact that he is a rookie means he hasn't coached before. On your scenario only ex-coaches with finals experience would be worthy of appointment.

Oh and I think you'll find that SOS was given great credit for LRT's improvement into a premiership CHB?
