"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."
The coverage (the quantity at least) was at its best from 97-01 before Nine and Ten got the rights. In those days, if you were playing interstate, 9 out of 10 times you would be live or on minimal delay on free-to-air.
But then they went for the corporate dollar and decided that regardless of where it is played, the match most likely to get the most viewers should be shown in prime time.
Back before the 01 rights deal, on a Saturday Night, say if the games were Fremantle v St.Kilda in Perth and Collingwood v Sydney at the Dome they'd show the Perth game live and then the Collingwood game would be live on C7(Pay TV) then replayed. This was fair, if you wanted to watch Collingwood you should go and watch them, not get them on 1/2 hour delay in your home city.
It really is absurd, when compared with what happens in America where there are balckouts and the home team is never shown live or close to it unless there is a sellout.
But then again, would the networks pay for second-rate games? If not, each club would lose substantial amounts of money.
Ultimately, it is probably worth having to get Foxtel or go to a pub/friend's house/social club to watch the boys 5 times a year to ensure long term survival.

STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.
