Hmmm it's tricky there are quite a few ways of doing it...

The vote way would be a great way of doing it.... because this would give everyone a say, however the only problem is that it is not a real preference system, so if there is one clear BOG we will struggle to be able to award votes of 4,3,2,1...

I was also thinking of a first in best dressed policy, the first 20 posters each week to give their votes are counted, however this would be unfair to posters that were at the game as opposed to those at home, we could form some sort of a waiting list so that the 20 people for each week are already pre-determined, everybody would get a shot this way and we could still get the preferences, however it could be long time between getting to vote...

My proposal would to go half and half, we have a waiting list so that 20 people make their votes every week and the player who gets the most votes gets 5 points, the next best gets 4 votes and so on...
But I could narrow down who I believe to be the top 10 players on the ground and then all posters can vote and the most popular result gets another 5 votes, the next best gets 4 and so on....
However if there is one clearly best on ground and he gets all votes, then the 4,3,2,1 votes will go to the next highest polling player from the weekly voters....

This is confusing and it is really hard to explain so I will give an example...

EG:
The weekly voters:
5. Riewoldt
4. Hayes
3. Harvey
2. Dal
1. Maguire

The Posters Votes:
Riewoldt 42
Dal 11
Harvey 5

So from the poster's vote it would go like this:
5. Riewoldt
4. Dal
3. Harvey
2. Hayes
1. Maguire

So the weekly point getters would be
10. Riewoldt
6. Dal, Harvey and Hayes
2. Maguire

This is quite a complicated system however it would give us a strong preference, it will give every member a say but it would also place a greater importance on the weekly voters who give preferences which will make it harder for any player to get votes just because they are popular...

This way it means that there two sets of 5 votes (that can be given in full to numerous players if there are ties), 2 sets of 4 votes (where the same applies) and so on....

No player can get more that 10 votes, and atleast 5 players have to receive votes, there is a fair amount of input from the weekly voters and poll afterwards....

When this gets off the ground it would be good if we could organise to set up an account so we can arrange for a medal to be made that somebody could present to the eventual winner, it wouldn't have to be too fancy a medal so it wouldn't be too expensive, I believe the honour of being voted by your fans as the best player for the season would be worth more to the players then any medal...

St.Trav's idea will be a big part of it, because I will pick out 10 players from each game and put them up for vote, however if we only used this method it wouldn't be as accurate, it could potentially make one vote worth too much, if somebody votes for Dal just because they love him and he's the only other player apart from the clear BOG then he will get 4 votes that he probably didn't deserve, this way every one can have a say, yet one vote can't turn the whole results, it would be complicated, but I am willing to tally up the votes and also factor in the polls results, it could be a bit time consuming but it's only once a week so I should be fine :)

It doesn't have to be super accurate, but I would only want to do it if it was going to be a fair indication, I don't want to know going into it that it's only between 3 or 4 players...

To see how many people would be interested in being a part of the weekly voting I am going to make a new thread soon so I can start seeing how many people would be interested...

Sounds a good idea.

Maybe you need to set a "Minimum Posts " threshold to stop troll posters.

I also worry that some people will vote for their favourites, or push an agenda, rather than voting on merit.

Next we need to come up with a fitting trophy for such a prestigious award.
And an appropriate ceremony.

I agree that it would be better without people trying to push agedas however the posters who do this most often actually have quite a high post count so I don't know if that would help...

As for the trophy I was having a look and you can get some pretty good looking trophies for 200$, if 40 people put in 5$ it could be easy, as for a ceremony, I have no idea how that could work, maybe the club would be generous and let someone present it at the B&F :P

Sounds like a really good idea. It may be a bit complicated but its fantastic that there is still an opportunity to give a 5-4-3-2-1. And since Armoooo has it all worked out with a good system which as long as Armoooo should work well.
