I am assuming that he will go into the PSD and not the national draft....and that he has already agreed to suitable terms with a club....say the Dogs or the Blues.......and that he would therefore not be available by Pick 9 in the PSD.HarveysDeciple wrote:kicked 50 goals last year.
Is a dead eye dick who is pretty decent mark.
I am amazed this one is getting dismissed so quickly.
I would strongly consider it.
People have put so much thought into drafting the Faukner's and Bradley's of the world and we dismiss this one..
Weird.
I think the Dogs would love him as they desperately need someone to ease the load on the overworked Johnson

I sometimes get the feeling that opposition players are rated on a totally different scale to that of our own.....
Welsh is a STAR...And a perfect fit to our forward line.

One of my favourite players to watch - he always kicks goals, looks elusive and is rarely beaten.Spinner wrote:Welsh is an absolute gun.
Would be a perfect addition to our forward line.
If he's available with out pick in the PSD, I'd be delighted to snare him.
The ideal third tall option, who is just as capable of being played as a 'first' tall.
Doubt the Dogs will overlook him, though.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

He 'apparently' slapped an 18 year old girl with his jumper, at a night club, on the night Adelaide lost to Hawthorn in the finals this year.riccardo wrote:It now comes out that he was not offered the deal he wanted because of his unspecified off field problems.
Still interested?
From what ive read, he wasnt charged.
Still VERY interested.

Yes the Crows are now also putting up some spin to save face with their members......riccardo wrote:It now comes out that he was not offered the deal he wanted because of his unspecified off field problems.

Welsh obviously has some issues.....but the key here is that at least one other club has obviously offered him a good deal.....and that the Crows have chosen not to match it.
If every club delisted all the players who have "issues" there probably would be 20% or so less players!!! including a few Saints.

Given age and injuries, I think he's a poor candidate. However, unlike others, I think he'd be an excellent candidate on the merits of his game. The part he plays that isn't getting a lot of talk in this thread is the negating forward role, which he does very well, and certainly understands how to turn the table if his man doesn't show him a lot of respect.
I think that's something the Saints could use, and that Ross Lyon could employ very well.
However, for the reasons at the top of the post, I'd still steer clear. Given thin pickings in the PSD, wouldn't be surprised if he's gone early and it's a moot point anyhow. I'm thinking Bulldogs might take the punt.

As the Saints are at No 9 in the PSD (though may go higher with a few opt outs) I think it inlikely that the Saints wil participate unless we have some "roughie" in mind such as M Clarke that was taken last year.
Though having said that there area large number of recycled players this year (ie Bradley to Freo????)......and Ross may have someone in mind for some niche.

Going by what was in the Age this morning, he has basically quit because the Dogs have offered him a two-year deal and Crows were only prepared to go for one.
So I think that answers that one.
Just as a matter of interest, how will the Crows go this year?
They've lost Welsh, Ricciuto, Mattner, Meesen and Hudson for really nothing but a couple of draft picks (and not very high ones at that)
The only acquisition is Brad Moran, who ain't no world beater.

Me too....... would be a good "fix" for the retirement of Gehrig. Could give us 40-50 goals a year.Spinner wrote:He 'apparently' slapped an 18 year old girl with his jumper, at a night club, on the night Adelaide lost to Hawthorn in the finals this year.riccardo wrote:It now comes out that he was not offered the deal he wanted because of his unspecified off field problems.

Definitely worth a look.
Welsh would be a great addition for any club for Season 2008. He plays well above his height, reads the game well and has an excellent stat to goal ratio. He also makes average players around him look good, injuries aside he could have been a gun; still he tackles hard and just what the St Kilda Footy Club needs to complement the mix.
Poochy 1 2 3 4 and 5 should be reinstated!
