Milne had one knock on him; he went missing in big games.
Jack looks like he'd enjoy putting on a show on the biggest of stages. Time will tell.
100% this.
Milne DID go missing in big games. Far too often. He played in plenty too, so it's not like the sample size is too small.
Snags does look like he would thrive on the bigger stage.
Higgins was poor on the big stage on Saturday night prime time on free to air
Snags had 3 effective disposals tonight. Couldn’t keep his feet. Couldn’t do the selfless team things that are required and couldn’t get a clean possession late in the dying minutes of the game
Small pure forwards like Milne, Butler, Higgins all go missing in tough games or in tough conditions.
Their small statures and their inability to win their own ball becomes a liability in tough finals etc...
I would rather be playing medium sized playmakers who can use their body and can take a mark and who get involved in general play and who win their own ball.
You need contributors in finals ... and you can't afford to be easily outmarked and outbodied.
I hope Billings, Byrnes or someone like Sharman (for his marking ability and mobility) even, etc... end up replacing both Higgins and Butler.
Some games the opposing target players differently in how to nullify their impact .
IMO it is unrealistic to expect every player to go 90% ~100% every game
All I'm saying is maybe Butler and Higgins is one too many small pure forwards ... given we have Gresham (who has more strings to his bow) running forward too.
Something to think about come the finals ... and something we should probably be thinking about now?
See how easily Higgins was held back by his taller, heavier and stronger opponent and couldn't get to the ball that bounced in the goal square?
The ball was on the ground, but he couldn't get to it.

Small forwards are going to have barren periods.
No issue with this as long as they are applying the pressure and doing the team things.
Most importantly they need to capitalize on their opportunities, unfortunately Higgins missing easy shots is the biggest concern IMO.
I don't understand how Jack was gifted a game back into the seniors after being off for a month. He's not Steele or Dusty or the Bont
He's too often hit or miss. He either stars or he fails. He seems to want to play like Milne or like a Key position forward. If we want a third tall we should just be playing Sharman
I'd like to see him or one of the other senior players dropped like Billings was. If it's good enough for Clark and JB to earn their spot back why did Snags just waltz back into the line up?
I'm not blaming one person for the loss against Brisbane but just highlighting the fact that Higgins is this years B Hill.
Billings was building up to good form and should have been chosen instead of Higgins imo.
