Highmore’s injury Described as “ He copped a cork just above his kneecap with about five minutes to go in the first quarter and just couldn’t get going again. He went back out and tried to keep going, but corks above the knee aren’t very nice and inhibit all movement.”

Re: Team for Round 1
This is the team i would pick - but I think the selectors will go a different way
B: Wilkie, Howard, Paton
HB: Hill, Battle, Sinclair
C: Wood, Crouch, McKenzie
HF: Sharman, Membrey, Higgins
F: Butler, King, Gresham
Ruck: Marshall, Steele, Ross
I/C: Webster, Wanganeen-Milera, Byrnes, Campbell
Sub: Hayes
Whilst i thought Hayes competed well, I’d prefer to change Marshall and Campbell off the bench, with Ro doing the bulk of time on ground. Selectors I suspect will favour Hayes over Campbell because of the way he also plays more like a midfielder than a ruckman once the ball hits the ground. Problem with that is we will get slaughtered when Marshall is not in the ruck, and heaven forbid Marshall gets injured and can’t play the game out. Could they roll the dice and play Ryder off the bench ?
Wouldn’t surprise me if they select Kent to provide another option to roll through the middle and half forward. Can’t see both Michito and NWM making heir debut.
Really hope Jones is back by around R2. We will need him against Freo.

Re: Team for Round 1
I wouldn't like to see Ross in the side.
Prefer one of the youngsters.
Sure, Seb would get 25-30 possies, but most would be scrappy kicks in haste, and handballs to a guy surrounded by Filth players.
Even if a youngster gets 18 touches, they won't be useless like Seb's disposals. And they are the future, they will be learning.
Seb is the past, and has proven time and again to be a fantastic asset- for the opposition.

Re: Team for Round 1
I agree with your side for round 1 Zed, except I think Hayes plays in front of Campbell. I suspect Campbell only plays if both Marshall & Ryder are unavailable. I think they see Campbell as a nil all draw in the tap outs & Hayes a loss in the tap outs but a win around the ground.Zed wrote: ↑Tue 08 Mar 2022 9:32pm This is the team i would pick - but I think the selectors will go a different way

It is hard to see any player outside of the 26 named last Saturday playing in round 1, despite losing two best 22 players. Unless that player's name is one of Ryder, Jones or Hannebery.
Very happy to see NWM given an opportunity early, he will be a huge asset after another two or three pre-seasons on top of 30-40 AFL games experience.

Re: Team for Round 1
I note most people are selecting Paton to come straight back in however I'm wondering how his pre season has been going and if he's fully recovered from the broken leg and if the plan is to bring him back via the VFL.
It is also interesting most seem to be leaving Highmore out but I think he comes in before Paton.
I think Byrnes will get a game before Sharman.
And for a really strange reason people are selecting Wood on a wing and Gresham in a forward pocket whereas I think that will be the other way around.

Re: Team for Round 1
IMO, Sharman, Wood, Membrey, King and Higgins should always be playing in the forward half together- that's as good as we get for firepower..Butler came to us a crumbing forward, but hasn't set the world on fire for a season or so, and there's opportunity for someone to put pressure on his spot.

So Sharman is ahead of Buttler you think?spert wrote: ↑Wed 09 Mar 2022 8:28am IMO, Sharman, Wood, Membrey, King and Higgins should always be playing in the forward half together- that's as good as we get for firepower..Butler came to us a crumbing forward, but hasn't set the world on fire for a season or so, and there's opportunity for someone to put pressure on his spot.

Re: Team for Round 1
Is Leo Connolly injured? out of favour? Thought he looked good towards end of last year and read he had bulked up? Webster Paton and Hill keeping him out? Sign of a strong squad?

Yep, as an effective forward, but not a crumber, which should be Butler's bread and butter, but Butler doesn't get dropped, so who is going to put pressure on his spot?Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 09 Mar 2022 9:34amSo Sharman is ahead of Buttler you think?spert wrote: ↑Wed 09 Mar 2022 8:28am IMO, Sharman, Wood, Membrey, King and Higgins should always be playing in the forward half together- that's as good as we get for firepower..Butler came to us a crumbing forward, but hasn't set the world on fire for a season or so, and there's opportunity for someone to put pressure on his spot.

Re: Team for Round 1
We all will be wrapped if players like Sharman can push out a player of Buttlers experience this year, but I think the experienced guys will get the gig first for the first few rounds unless they are having poor pre season form and issues.spert wrote: ↑Wed 09 Mar 2022 11:14amYep, as an effective forward, but not a crumber, which should be Butler's bread and butter, but Butler doesn't get dropped, so who is going to put pressure on his spot?Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 09 Mar 2022 9:34amSo Sharman is ahead of Buttler you think?spert wrote: ↑Wed 09 Mar 2022 8:28am IMO, Sharman, Wood, Membrey, King and Higgins should always be playing in the forward half together- that's as good as we get for firepower..Butler came to us a crumbing forward, but hasn't set the world on fire for a season or so, and there's opportunity for someone to put pressure on his spot.
Same goes for the new recruits who haven't debuted at AFL level, they won't get a run early unless our season turns to crap in the first 4 to 6 weeks you would think. Ratts is under pressure to get the side back into finals, he's not in charge of a team at the bottom of a major rebuild.

It was strange to see Sharman not in the starting line up for the practice match. I see no point in playing him in the VFL

Re: Team for Round 1
My impression from training reposts was that he wasn’t really killing it.
I am surprised too.
I assumed he was ‘so good’ he didn’t have to prove himself, where as Wood and Hayes were more fringe dwellers.. Silly idea if seems now.

I'd like to sneak Owens in there.
He'll be smashing the door down after a week at Sandy anyway.

Agreed, think NWM would be lucky to get a call up before Rnd 12D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Sun 06 Mar 2022 4:36pm Doubt they will play anyone who has not played in one of the full scale practice in the matches against Carlton or Essendon.
Highmore appears on the outer in favour of Battle.
Personally I prefer Highmore as he's a pretty hand intercept mark and offers more attack.
I wonder how many tall forwards Collingwood play, perhaps they play Cameron or Cox or Moore.
It looks from practice games that clubs may play taller forward lines this year.
I think it will be:
Webster Howard Wilkie
Sinclair Battle Hill
Wood Crouch Ross
Higgins Hayes Membrey
Butler King Byrnes
Marshall Steele Gresham
IC: Paton McKenzie Sharman (NWM or Kent)
