Re: Buddy
Hunter has broken jaw - play on. Elbows to head, play on, can't argue with precedent, no matter how stupid. If AFL does not start a fair dinkum foul play penalty system it is going to pay a heavy price. If it were not serious it would be funny.

Re: Buddy
Now lets be honest did anyone really think he wouldn't get off ? I was surprised he got a week & I said to my wife they will appeal this & he will get off & what do you know he did. I have no problem with the decision but what I do have a problem with is the bias toward big name players & certain AFL clubs. The tribunal have no credibility IMO

Re: Buddy
The Big Koala, had he played for St Kilda, would have copped at least a month.
No, one week. Overturned and replaced with a $3,000 fine. I think he has given bigger tips to barmaids when on the turps. Joke.

Re: Buddy
the elbow has become the elite players new go to weapon !
Once it was considered to be a dog act but these days players can no longer give someone a love tap without getting a week , so the next best thing is the elbow .
That way all so stupid boxes that have to be ticked can be argued away to the point whereas said player comes away looking like a poor persecuted soul whilst the victim got what he deserved .
Ablett jr , Danger , Dusty , Cotchin , Oliver etc etc... have all gotten away with worse ones than buddy in the last couple of years .

Re: Buddy
Intentional elbow
Regardless Of injury should have been weeks
He purposely threw his elbow towards the head of an opposition player. Lucky it didn’t fully connect!!!
If we are trying to stamp out concussions, why aren’t we giving weeks to a guy who intentionally made contact with the head?!
Punish the act - not the outcome
The system is so flawed it’s ridiculous

Re: Buddy
breaking news:
- MRO is a fool.
- MRO and Tribunal* have little if anything in common in their mission statements.
- Man responsible for functioning of foul play regime has left the building for Kadinya. No one else taking any particular notice esp. with everyone in AFL HQ helping with Covid related travel and scheduling.
- Club advocates are several levels of smartness above AFL counsel, MRO and revolving door of Tribunal members.
- Rule of thumb: bog standard player, rub them out occasionally, say every third case, so a box can be ticked. Big name, find reason not to. Bums on seats and media coverage don't you know.
- nightmare scenarios:
1. Dangerfield and Buddy elbow each other simultaneously, noses broken and next week is GF.
2. As Mackay and Selwood run to a loose 50/50 ball Selwood drops his shoulders out of habit and cops a career ending knee in head from Mackay who claims he never saw him coming. No charge as accidents happen/boys will be boys, but Cats take it to Supreme Court demanding Selwood be given one more free to take his total to 50,000.
* random collection of former players in groups of three, who need the money - with limited specialist training or experience in judging that have promised to uphold the integrity of the game unless it means suspending a player with a high profile or David Mackay. Their motto: s*** happens, move on. We need to get home for dinner.

Re: Buddy
Anyone who has copped an elbow knows they hurt more than a punch.
Seriously, why is a fist, elbow, knee, kick treated as if it might be a part of the game?
Each deserves a minimum 1 week (possibly 2 minimum), what happens after that should just add to the punishment.
Something that should be incorporated / adopted in our justice system for various charges, regardless of circumstance.

Re: Buddy
The system is flawed as it was meant to make things clearer which it obviously hasn’t.
Didn’t a St Kilda player get suspended for an attempted strike once?

Re: Buddy
.......at the risk of sounding controversial.....
Blokes like Cotchin, Buddy and Sellwood who were once champions are becoming frustrated grumpy old men and sniping in the twilight of their careers...
In Buddy's case, a bit like Adam Goodes before him, the AFL are determined to support Sydney and especially their drawcard players, as a result they find every way to prevent suspension......
And just like Adam Goodes, Buddy has always been highly regarded throughout the competition, and respected by opposition fans...
But as a result of blatant double standards by the AFL fans are likely to voice their dissaproval and the natural response is to boo the player concerned...
So if Buddy get's boo'd by the opposition fans, it's all about the injustice delivered by the AFL.......it has nothing to do with race.
The AFL must accept full responsibility for creating a very unpleasant environment.....

Re: Buddy
So are you going to boo Tom Hawkins who has done it several times and nearly blinded Steven May a couple of months back?
https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/afl-vill ... -c-2568030
Jimmy Bartel was quick to call it ‘accidental’ and of course all the 7 commentators were quick to back up the Geelong ex player sticking up for the Geelong current player. https://www.zerohanger.com/star-demon-s ... 021-81986/
Hawkins has been throwing back elbows and arms for most of his career…or what about Luke Shuey who did exactly the same thing and got off…or David Astbury (one of the first AFL players to be cited this year for throwing an arm backwards) who the MRO let off and set the precedent for this sort of action in 2021
Are you going to boo these players?
