Re: Can we trade Hill?
Freo weren’t that good when he was there, and he starred?!
We were good last season - he was not
We aren’t good this season - he is not
He was pretty good at Hawthorn

What does that even mean freely? Are you saying Ryder's position is the easiest on the ground and the fact we've a steeped history in buggering up his position; Cook, Brookes, Longer, Hickey, Hunter...please add anymore chops we've tried in Paddy's position.freely wrote: ↑Wed 26 May 2021 11:16amYou can't just bring players into the team and tell them to do what they were doing before! Before they were part of a structure that made use of their abilities. Now, they're working for "have a go, joe" "do your thing, bing" Ratten. Same applies to the lot of em. Who of the blow-ins has continued to shine? Paddy. Why? Because you can't bugger up where he's playing or what he's supposed to be trying to do.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 26 May 2021 12:05am Why did he play so well at Freo?
Won a B&F was runner up in another, averaged 25 possessions and was rated in the best few wingman in the AFL
Along with being good enough to be an important part of one of best teams in recent history..
And now he’s in his prime!
What has happened??
He has been so poor, he has needed to be moved to HB to try and get a kick!!! And now that isn’t even working!
Question is, what has changed between Freo and StK
Are we wanting him to be something he’s not?!
He’s not an inside contested ball winner, he’s an outside runner with foot skills, why can’t we utilise that??

No I don't think it's easy at all. But I think he knows his role and his role doesn't change, whatever team he's playing for. So whatever our coach wants to do (or not do) with structure, Paddy will ruck the way that Paddy rucks.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 26 May 2021 7:13pmWhat does that even mean freely? Re: Can we trade Hill?
The biggest issue is when he plays for us he is potentially the most damaging midfielder so gets usually a closer player than he did at Freo.
At Freo they have Fyfe and Walters so he was given the freedom of being the number 3 midfielder receiver to be shutdown.
Our best midfielders are Steele, Crouch and Ross who are all ball winners rather than receivers meaning he is the number one outside receiver as Jones is frequently injured.
If we can get more run through the middle freeing him up somewhat it will help.
He played really well against Hawthorn but they didn't try to shut him down, sides that do can shut him down quite easily.

Re: Can we trade Hill?
Almost cut and paste about Seb. Watching Brad live he is one of the few that can one grab at top pace and has sublime skills. Speed and agility, attacks down the middle, gets caught trying to make sure he doesn't blaze away. No one, no one kicks or handballs an Australian rules football at 100% under pressure.
Other teams know this and do their best to stop him, and you know they are good at it because we cannot isolate him, we are not good at that.
I have seen games where he has very brave smothers and taken big hits, got up and played on. Agree his tackling is poor, normally. But - that's BUT - its not NRL and how harsh are we on our players that don't even lay any tackles or lack his technical skills but huff and puff effort for no outcome - plenty are good at feigning tackle attempts but Brad just can't tackle. Like King can't kick for goal very well yet and Marshall cannot kick for goal at all.
Its a team game, get the ball to the man who can advance the team's position and get it into the hands of someone that can reliably kick for goal. Unfortunately Heatley and Gehrig have retired and we have no reliable forwards at the moment. Higgins perhaps if he can ever get the ball inside 50.

Imagine if we were patient and just bided our time and didn’t recruit Hill and Hanners.
Imagine people.
