Forumites repeatedly calling him a fat so, or a disgusting slob, making light of his personal circumstances/challenges and actually taking glee in shortcomings is very poor form.

It’s one thing to be angry that he left, actively revelling in poor fortune is something else altogether. Doesn’t take a lot to see that his fitness issues started around the time of his personal issues worsened and things haven’t gotten a great deal better.
Move to Geelong may not have fixed anything but he obviously needed something or try something and would only be worse off if he’d stayed.

Quite disturbing the nature of the flak he cops here

Like with Hanners who's a player I have problems with it's never something personal against the player and I always like to see a former Saint succeed -- just as long as it isn't at our expense!!!!

My problem with the whole Steven affair is our management not the man and I hope he can rebound and become the player again that we all grew to love even if it is for the Cats.

BTW anyone know if the pay sharing deal ends this year or is that for his entire contract?

Wonderful sentiments skeptic and I applaud you for that stance. My gripe is that we were played by him and his manager, not just for last season but the previous when he signed on & in good faith should never have. That was the time for honesty, rather than back the club into a corner. Sure he may have issues and I wish him well but the first thing I hope returns to him is his integrity because he used to be a genuinely likeable lad.

Extremely disappointed ..... yeah I'll say it disgusted by the attitude of posters on this thread. We know the story since found out in the NZ preseason. Won b&fs, served the club well and gave me many occasions to rise up and cheer.
Some people need to take a good hard look.

100% agree

Certainly not suggesting he hasn’t done anything wrong. Maybe it’s just a life time of working in the public health sector but people whose lives are falling apart, self-inflicted or not tend to make bad decisions.

You don’t have to like, forgive, respect, sympathise or any of that

But for ppl to actively take pleasure, revel in his misfortune and sink the boots in... it’s in humane

That’s what bothers me. Have let these types of posts slide for a whole now for the sake of keeping the peace but was snapped out of it by Outside66’s post which is spot on

Denigrating individual players, off field staff and even umpires by name in social media, such as this forum is something we should seek to stamp out.

I've certainly done this myself in the past, but now consider this is no longer acceptable, especially in light of the increasing problem of mental illness suffered by both present and past players.

In yesterday's papers Harley Bennell's mother expressed her disgust with Melbourne FC supporters vilifying her son on the Demon's fansite following his fall from grace on the weekend.

This amounts to kicking a man when he's down and quite reprehensible.

It is quite tragic to see former sport stars come out in public to reveal their battles with mental health problems fitting back in the real world, and while they are the exception rather than the rule, the numbers are significant.

We'll never know what demons our own "Spud" had to contend with, and certainly the damage to his brain from numerous concussions has been confirmed as a major factor, but I wonder if his high profile in the media may also have seen him being subjected to ridicule and vilification.

Expressing delight in Jack Steven being dropped for tonight's final against Port Adelaide is perverse! By all means share such views in the privacy of your conversations with your mates, but please don't air them in public.....

Seems like it is ok to put s*** on Seb Ross, our own two times best and fairest winner, but it is not ok to speak the truth about a former best and fairest winner who is no longer with the club and who conned the club in order to be nearer his "family" and who wanted to play finals but who evidently was not prepared to put in the hard work to achieve that aim. For the moment anyway.

Our captain and vice captain are constantly the target of adverse and nasty comments.

Go figure.

I, unlike countless posters on here never diss any of our current team, its coach or admin. Once you leave though you are fair game imhfo.

More like posters were saying it was ironic Steven being dropped, rather than" expressing delight" in that fact.

Can you really not see the difference though?

People are criticising performance or things they do on the field.

Have never read anything on here from Seb or Geary’s harshest critics delighting in injury woes or wishing ill on them.

True enough saynta, I've made critical comments on this forum about Ross and Geary, but I guess "I've seen the error of my ways" and realised that publishing those things on social media, which for all we know is read by those individuals or their families, has the potential to cause them hurt or grief, and that's not something I would be comfortable with...

You stated the reason you originally gave him the title of ‘Dud’ was because of his kicking

Anyone who saw the match against Adelaide, where Steven was given a chance to cement his place, would understand why he was dropped. He can’t hit targets by foot. Doesn’t suit Geelong‘s game plan.
Yes, unfortunately, that is right. Never questioned his endeavour, nor his ability to get to where the ball was - a skill in itself. But getting it is only half of the task. I lost count of the number of times he got the ball out of the centre , streamed forward, Nick R on a fast lead five metres in front of his opponent, only to see the ball sail over his head, drop short or go out of bounds. His handball is poor as well. Compare and contrast with Jack Steele. Zak Jones isn't a great kick either but he seems to mongrel the ball to our advantage.

As I said at the time, we would never make finals until Jack S left, if we were relying on him to be our No 1 mid. But, I wish him well.

True, and I will put my hand up, but he played the Saints for mugs. Not in the least sorry for what I posted.

Sorry, I guess I was trying to find sense in your need to spout puerile garbage that is simply mean-spirited and utterly disrespectful. You’re right about one thing though, your opinion is f****d

And I give a fat rat's tossbag about yours? Grow up ffs.

ps. I didn't say anything that was not true about a former but now fat former saints footballer who conned the club into letting him go to Geelong while still picking up the bulk of his salary which is f****** outrageous in hindsight.

Is he any closer to home now?

Criticising the player for his on field performance and denigrating the bloke for who he is as a person or his mental health challenges are two different things.

I can't see the issue in calling Steven fat, just take a look at him now verses how he looked in his prime with the Saints.

For an elite sportsman absolutely looks fat.

My biggest surprise is that he didn't drop the bulge over pre-season and that the cats select him when he clearly looks underdone.

Winning the footy has never been his issue, urgency & energy around the contested ball was always his massive point of difference & strength with good breakaway speed. Disposal was always average, not elite like some of his other qualities.

Watching the games this year, IMO his condition seems to have limited his elite areas and highlights his average disposal.

I don't want the boy to fail but i don't want him helping the cats beat us in a final either.
Happy for him to dominate in games but have absolute shockers against us.

Judging by the fact that Geelong's midfielders got done over last night, he is a chance to come back in next week
