Stop blaming the umpires …they’re not the ones miss kicking it , handballing to teammates under pressure or at their feet , there not the forward who keeps leading to a pocket then puts one arm in the air … thats our duds

I would trade Gresham, Billings and Crouch all are crabs and dont have the legs for the current game. Did you see Gresham give up on a chase after about 4 steps in that 3rd quarter.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:02pm If a team wanted to give a 1st rounder for Gresham, take it & run!
For that matter, besides Steele & our first year players, do we have anyone else who should not be on the table?
Brodie was criticised for being too slow, but he is a race horse compared to Crouch.
Billings never got out of a fast trot for the entire game. Never shows one ounce of desperation, want or urgency. I guess thats why they call him vanilla.

It is relevant when I'm commenting on the umpiring.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:02pmIrrelevant, Butler shouldn’t have given the 50 away. Effectively killed the game for us.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:00pm Watching the replay of that 50m given against Butler....how the hell is that not cheating by the umpire.
That was the very definition of a free kick to Butler.
Butler shouldn't have remonstrated, but it was as obvious injustice as you would see on the footy field

Fluked a win last week as Carlton couldn't kick straight.
Found out tonight by a skilled, well-coached team.
No excuses.
Too many duds on the ground, in the coaching box, in administration, and on the Board.

Should be a musclebound colossus by now.
Should NOT be twirling the ball on his run-ups.
Should be leading to empty spaces.
Should NOT be showing bad body language.
In short, everything a good coach would have turned him into.
But at the Saints ... well, we don't want to hurt his feelings.

I'll watch Sandy tomorrow and see if there is any joy there.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It seems Howard & Paton may be quite important to our back 6 (7).

I think that was Highmore's first AFL game for the year, he probably got the shock of his life at the difference between AFL and VFL, and got found out.
He didn't appear to be that bad last year when he played AFL more often.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Dockers Round 17 2022
My only two disagreements with that is that (1) Billings stuck 3 tackles which resulted in HTB decisions (2) Crouch was close to our best which may be more of an indictment on our team.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:09pmI would trade Gresham, Billings and Crouch all are crabs and dont have the legs for the current game. Paton has not been lit up by a small forward for starters. If you're happy with Webster's game & confident in Highmore and Hill to defend first, (turnover 2nd), then knock yourself out.saintbob wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:25pmPaton seriously, what has he done?Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:14pm It seems Howard & Paton may be quite important to our back 6 (7).

Agree Howard should never kick out or call for the ball.

Paton turns it over more than Webster and Howard combined, I’m thinking Robert Eddy reincarnated.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 11:30pmPaton has not been lit up by a small forward for starters. I got howled down for it but will say again
Basset goes too
Signing a coach with the jury well and truly out
Treating members like idiots - was done weeks ago
Only a poor run club does that
Too comfortable with their mates down there
Not serious about what it really takes to win flags
“Yeah….nah””

Re: Match Thread Saints v Dockers Round 17 2022
The clear sign from the umpire was dragging the arms down - he made a motion that you do to truckers to get them to pull the horn - but even so - that kind of free is rarely paid unless the shirt is pulledkosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 10 Jul 2022 12:01amSainter_Dad wrote:You are making things upkosifantutti wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 9:36pmWilkie was reaching around his chest and when Lobb went to lift his arm it was restricted. Don’t think so - but I will concede - technically the free was there - it was not in the feel of the game and it was certainly not applied consistently
I think ALL free kicks paid can be technically justified - but - well at the ground the umpires would not have been safe walking among the crowd
