Welcome back Grant. You were my first Saints coach as I arrived in the country in early 2004 and perforce of living in St Kilda and being a general sports nut soon became a Saints tragic... lucky year to arrive eh?

Re. Goddard I tend to agree with your first part, but not with your second... it makes for a catchy maxim ('great clubs don't let great people walk out of the door') but it isn't precisely right... 'great clubs don't allow any individual to become bigger than the team' combined with 'don't let players who have their best years ahead of them leave' are better ones... My other team (Man United) have been experts at this over the years - letting some players go (Ince, Beckham) but judiciously keeping others (Giggs, Scholes)... Saints have done the same (Goose, Ball, Goddard vs Hayes, Roo, Kosi, Milne, Fish)

In a world where there is a salary cap that becomes particularly important, especially when the playing list is in urgent need of refreshing as ours is...

Anyhow, welcome and I hope that your re-emergence can spark a return to some interesting footy discussions...

wow this is great. more ex-coaches/club people should do this.

ive been trying to find a question to ask GT and one thing kept bobbing up. why did we send the G Train down to hall after he gave goose a quick jab. seemed counter productive and gave sydney what they wanted?

the other thing i am worried about. since we lost bakes/beej, who can be the "enforcer" at our club?

i reckon armo could quite easily step into an enforcer role?
seen him get under the skin of quite a few opp players

I'd rather know what was said in the coaches box in the last quarter when Sydney were on their rampage.

Thomo's worst ever decision was to fly up to the Gold Coast and hire Malcolm Blight. His best decision was to sack him.

Couldn't agree more on that. The extra year may have done it. Still, it's hard to compete with the addtional year, plus more money and also the third party deal.....
I still think it's about being a midfielder...

I think he was  that he had to wait until a few weeks before the end of the season to get a proper run at it...

People are so harsh on him as a mid, not everyone can be like Lenny and flourish under a developing ruckman.

I still think under Ryder/Bellchambers, he will surprise a few on here....

I meant to say that in the post - more time in the midfield with Ess

Yes he had to wait a quite a while before getting a decent go in the middle/on the ball, and did ok at it too.

Some folks mark him very harshly - still on about him not finding his own footy.....

i dont think they 'could' come on,
with us (ss) being unofficial 'n all.
... i'm sure telstra would have stymied that !

essendon weren't so dumb,
they ran their own site iirc.

maybe thats another one of the mistakes the club made.
ie ,
not being able to keep comunicating with the feral fans in a live setting .

we are an untapped resource.

agree gringo.
i dont believe anyone should insult anyone ever - no matter who the person is. treat people 'online' like ud treat them in person. sure argue ideas and disagree on the issues . go to town on that. i have no probs there. but personal stuff is simply the realm of sh*t blokes (or girls).
I was extremely disappointed that armos brother was bullied off here. He provided lots of insights we wouldnt otherwise get yet some people took it upon themselves to berate and bully him. and now hes gone. Just really appalling and upsetting behaviour. Having GT is an absolute privilege. Super coach, great mind manager, insightful and insider and a true saints man. An absolute privilege.
