had a danish mate years ago that called all his friends c..tface, and such. some worse. just one of those types. really nice fella but a bit loose up top. he strolls into the market square when i'm selling amongst my fellow illegal immigrants friends - palestinians and moroccans mainly, and a rather cool old israeli chap. he saunters up and practically yells hey c..tface, how's life, or some such. my mates were stunned. when he left they were all coming over telling me you can't let someone call you that. i said he calls all his mates that - it's his problem not mine.

i was pondering all this today

wondering if the ‘taking the piss’
(with a general respect)
part of the old aussie nature
is easy to ‘get’ for our newer folk

seems like second nature to me
but is that coz of my english / irish / scottish forebears
or coz its the nature of our environment

I find that I am duplicitous...and can have good and bad intention wrapped into the tone and register at the same time, and they come out involuntarily. I say mate, and fella..and use overly familiar or affected tones without hesitation, despite the best intentions in my ego, which I am sure is as shallow as a puddle on the pavement.
