Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
Freeman has been a complete liability and the filth were not stupid to offer him the ridiculous 3 year security we gave, after giving him the best possible medical and rehab treatment available. They are laughing even louder now. We have a neighbour who is a filth supporter who said he would need a miracle for his body to stand up. Hearing it for over 2 years has been bad enough let alone seeing it. Freeman has again been in cotton wool since August last year (almost 8 months and into year 3 at his second club) and he is still 7-8 weeks away at best! What a joke for someone whose body should be in its prime at this age. He is definitely gone and it was a dumb, high risk decision that has cost the club $$ they really couldn't afford to lose. Even worse, there is a spot on the list that has gone nowhere for 3 years because of our insipid recruiters.

Really? Similar odds?? I'd be a billionaire many times over playing lotto if the odds for Freeman were similar. Seriously, what an absurd comment.

Not absurd at all because you are using the aid of hindsight to back up your own comments. If you don't understand that then tell me where the Saints went wrong on Saturday if they lose against the Kangaroos. Any idiot can make a compelling case by looking backat time. So your argument adds nothing of value.saintkid wrote:magnifisaint wrote:Wow great observation with hindsight. I'm not prepared to write him off yet especially if it's true that the surgery uncovered a defect with the hamstring, which was resolved. It's a waiting game now....

What are you talking about? My statement is factual as the history on him was already there. Freeman was a very high risk gamble given his former club had access to the best medical and rehab programs available. Saturday's win if the team lose on Friday, as you put it, has nothing to do with what is being said about Freeman's recruitment, completely irrelevant to bring that up here. My argument is valid irrespective of what you call hindsight on him but it's pointless to discuss this further with you after that response.

Freeman cost us only pick 31, that we most likely would’ve used on a dud anyway

Why think like that though?
That mindset does not breed success and that is what has annoyed me with the club's recruiters. It is possible to build a talented list with picks beyond 30. Look at Essendon, they didn't have much to work with but they have picked up some really good players and their list is ahead of ours already.

Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
Unfortunately when Nathan Buckly himself kept doing his hammy, I recall in 07 the pies saying that after they did exploratory surgery on his hammy's and discovered a defect as well. They hailed this as good news. Sure enough he did his hammy again in the 07 prelim which is when he decided to pull the pin. My point? The discovery of a defect may have got to the cause of his problems but there's no guarantee that this means that they will be able to cure the problem.silverhalo wrote:I'm not prepared to write him off yet especially if it's true that the surgery uncovered a defect with the hamstring, which was resolved. Nope, your comment is absurd. While high risk high reward... it cost $300k a year, the average playing wage. And you're talking as if the club wouldn't have had to pay it to someone anyways. It's called a salary cap - his wage while maybe high compared to you, is a speak in the ocean in terms of the club's salary expenditure.
And the spot on the list... big deal. It's high risk high reward. So many other players that have taken up spots recently while we have been on the bottom.
It was an opportunity to get some high end talent in at little cost. Hasn't worked out but risk worth taking.

Not a risk worth taking. Surely Jesse Smith was experience enough? Surely Paddy McBeef would make them wary?

Exactly. Well put. Accountability is essential to success. Heads would roll at our company with such a decision. Tom Lee was another stupid pick. Essendon made the most of penalised draft picks and we are now chasing their tails. Embarrassing considering the richness of our picks since our ladder decline in 2012.

Jessie Smith was (very) arguably the best player on Nuff Nuff's list. And he cost us only draft pick 55 (or thereabouts).
That bloke coming good would have tipped us (comfortably) over the line in 2009 and 2010. And we'd have been back for another tilt in 2011. He was that good!
So guys, looking at things that way, pick 55 was a damn small wager to stake for a potential two (and counting) premierships.
I certainly hope that we keep taking these low risk-high reward punts, coz sooner or later some of them will come off, and the payday will be huge.
And I haven't written Freeman off yet. But if not, he only cost us a second rounder.
But. Just image.
If Nathan does come through... what sort of player are we constantly bemoaning the lack of...?

HOW 'DR DEATH' HELPED FREEMAN TO AFL DEBUT, FINALLY
By Russell Gould
ST KILDA debutante Nathan Freeman has revealed the lengths he went to in order to fix his troublesome hamstrings included a visit to a specialist he called “Dr Death” on the Mornington Peninsula.
Freeman was drafted in 2013 by Collingwood but was plagued by hamstring issues and never played for the Magpies.
He was traded to the Saints at the end of the 2015 season but continued to be haunted by injuries which forced him to look in a few “left-field” places for help.
Former Saint Tony Brown suggested Freeman try the man know as “Dr Death” - also known as Gary McDonell, a massage specialist who has helped other footballers - at Rye.
And as the 23-year-old prepared for his AFL debut against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night, more than 1700 days after he was drafted, Freeman said he was finally 100 per cent confident his body was ready for the rigours of an AFL game.
“I was actually speaking the the physios and the boys before about all the crazy things I have done,” Freeman said on Friday morning.
“I’ve been all over the world, been to Germany, been to rural Victorian to Donald to see some blokes up there, I’ve been to the AIS in Canberra and down to Rye to see Dr Death and all that sort of crazy stuff.
“Over the journey blokes have reached out to me telling me to give this and that a try. I don’t want to leave any stone unturned.
“If I didn’t make it back, it wasn’t through lack of trying.
"Hopefully it’s all paid off now.”
Freeman said after a fair bit of trial and error he was confident the way he was being managed by the Saints would lead to a long run of games.
“The way my weeks are structured now and the way they manage me I can go out there pretty confident I can give my all,” he said.
“We’ve got my program down pat and I don’t have any worries going in to training or in to games.”

I never stopped believing.
In fact, in a way I believe the healing power of my faith helped Nathan more than any doctor could/did.
I really hope the club reach out to me and acknowledge what a special person I am... maybe even Nathan himself should acknowledge the strength and support that I, random internet forumite bestowed on him.
