Forward Paddy McCartin, last year's No.1 draft selection, led the goalkicking with four majors from his 14 possessions in the Zebras' thrilling three-point win.

"He provided a real good target for us up forward and had seven shots at goal from eight marks," Sandringham coach Paul Hudson told AFL.com.au.

"The pleasing part about his eight marks was there were some really strong contested ones among them."

Hudson said tall Tom Hickey (16 possessions, one goal) worked well with McCartin, while youngster Jack Sinclair (22, nine tackles) "played like an AFL footballer".

Hudson confirmed onballer Tom Curren (ankle) and omitted midfielder Blake Acres (finger) sustained injuries in the first half. The severity of both injuries was unknown at this stage.

Defender Cameron Shenton and forward Ahmed Saad registered two goals apiece.
