Of all the players that have ever been at St Kilda, he is the one I know the most. He has sought me out at functions to speak to me. He is a thorough gentleman and I have never heard one bad word against him and I would defend him to the hilt.

Bakes is his best mate and I find it very hard to believe they had a punch up.

I have no doubt some idiot has had a go at them. It makes headlines because he is

a - St Kilda and they like to make us look bad
b - high profile AFL player
c - off season
So you are saying a guy had a go at them and then they punched each other. Now that is a strange story. As for Point A, you need to remove that chip from your shoulder.
i would have thought that to be fair comment by saint bev....no need for you to be rude to her

ILl have a best guess..

Bakes is on the dance fllor and is getting hassled. Never takes a backward step so sticks up for himself. Ends up with torn short. Bouncer, seeing his chance to throw Steven Baker out of a nightclub(Geelong fan ??lol) uses way too much aggro in throwing him out

Lenny sees Bakes treated like this and confronts security staff to complain. resultant altercation sees Lenny thrown out by similarly overzealous security bloke.

Just as an aside, does a "classy adult venue catering to an over-20's crowd" just seem silly? So youre a classy adult when you turn 20?? O....K lol

"Baker can then be seen being roughed up by security as he is escorted downstairs and removed from the premises.

Hayes, who was still upstairs at this stage, is later seen to be confronting a crowd controller, who responds by head-butting him.

The star midfielder was then grabbed by the hair by the same bouncer and dragged downstairs, where he too was presumably ejected.

Both Hayes and Baker received facial injuries. In an eventful 2010 AFL season, Baker was rubbed out for nine matches for striking Geelong forward Steve Johnson.'

The guy had fantastic skills but one must wonder if his kicking would have been as accurate, and as penetrating, if he'd been fitted with an ankle monitor on the eve of the finals?

From the ex-no22 earlier:
"Just like Beams huh? The good ole HS.

Expect both him and McCarthy to be cleared. Although Beams has been delivered a stern warning - in house."

So, troll, you anticpate Beams and the Great to be cleared - something about being in another room (a later post) when the alleged assault took place? Must be heartening for you.

Truth is the full prosecution has been in strife for some time. The DPP (or OPP, whichever you prefer) have had a terribly difficult job convincing the girl to pursue it. She is petrified, traumatised by the event itself, and then witness to the Everitt/Kennel Dog bullshymte on Eddie's channel (strange, within a few days of the incident) referring to her as e.g. a "stray".

They do have extensive forensic evidence backing her initial claims, including DNA. But, the poor girl has become so frightened she is reluctant to fully pursue it.

Coppers on railway stations to prevent crime under "Right Said Ted"? Oh, yeah, huge. If the justice system in this state has this girl so reluctant to pursue the whole posse of offenders, because she fears never ending dredging, then we're stuffed, and no amount of tokenism can overcome the fundamantal tragedy.

She is the one prosecution witness, as well as the victim. And, she's s*** scared. As a society we should be f&^$#%& well ashamed.

And, if DB and JB were in another room, it was a short occupation. JB is under the spotlight because of what he demanded she do to ensure he helped her get out of there. Stockholm Syndrome lives.

As for Beams, he's a Queenslander a long way from home. That's the polite treatment. Truth is he has a Malthouse fuelled arrogance about his place on the planet, and how clever he is. Reality and history inform on his character - and it ain't good.

yep thats how i read it stinger. on this occasion, bakes and certainly lenny were victims of total knobbish bouncers who no doubt knew who they were and wanted to win kudos in the zoo-house.

Yes perhaps true but we'd at least be happy having won a flag at last, and most likely not sober yet to worry about 2011

So is this of interest to the club or it's supporters in the slightest yet?

I think it's great to see AFL players supporting the fight against AIDS, just a pity the media had to find a reason to report the "incident" rather than the event.

I highly doubt we would have won the flag with him in the team. Could really see a united team happy that a few are being dragged into a major criminal trial in the near future. Not to mention the ensuing media circus that would have followed us (even more) around this year.

Let's face it Lovett was a superquick, better version of Richard Tambling. He's hardly Chris Judd or Gary Ablett. He may have helped us, but not under those circumstances.

I'd say the "Alastair Lynch" rule has seen to that idea Fireman. Well and truly.

Yep but would have been nice to see Daisy or Didak pooing their pants while jumping the fence to escape a good old fashioned whack from any Saint player.

I reckon ANYTHING involving the players that makes the media is of interest to us supporters Rodger. That's why we follow the club, b/c we ARE interested. Does it rate up there with Riewoldt going down with a hammy in Rd 3 or Baker being suspended for 9 weeks? Probably not.

I'm curious as to why you would get on an internet forum involving the footy club you support in the off season. I mean how does anything in the off season have any impact on the football season? The answer of course is that plenty of things that happen in the off season DO impact the footy season, OFF and on the ground.
