Last ever draw in GF
I think has to be the last ever draw in a GF. It needs to be decided on the day. It is to hard for the players to be expected to come back for another week and to expensive for some supporters to do it again.

Re: Last ever draw in GF
While I don't necessarily agree with extra time, I think yesterday it would have favoured us and we'd have probably won. If we'd scrambled a draw last year, we'd have probably lost in extra time.plugger66 wrote:I think has to be the last ever draw in a GF. It needs to be decided on the day. What is the extra time in the earlier finals - 5 mins each way after 5 min break?
I think the AFL will be pleased they get all the extra money, but disappointed that the day next week will lose a lot as a showpiece by not being in the spot it is, surrounded by all the other events around it.
It will be interesting to see how they handle the week and the day itself.
I feel sorry for the fans who travelled from overseas and interstate and will miss the replay.
Its hard financially too. That was my first thought after the siren. Another $500. We better win it - then it will be priceless

Just think footy is that professional now and with functions organised last night it has to be decided on the day. I went to the official after match last night and at least half the tables were empty.markp wrote:It only happens once every 30 odd years, and adds how much to the AFL's bottom line?

AFL loves it, bookies love it, Hotels and pubs love it, advertisers and broadcasters love it, State Government loves it....plugger66 wrote:Just think footy is that professional now and with functions organised last night it has to be decided on the day. Money will win, every time.
Went ahead. Only person from the club there was Greg Hutchison. My wife didnt want to go so I went with a mate. We were the only 2 on out table so we joined Lenny's family.saintnick12 wrote:I thought it was cancelled. Or just the players not therre but the function went ahead??? Stop trying to change the game!
The last thing we want is to reduce our game to a scum game like Soccer.
In soccer they can play rock/paper/scissors or whatever to determine an outcome, but they might as well toss a coin.
Bring the sides back next week and do it properly.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

We do actually have extra time in all the other finals so it isnt that new.Enrico_Misso wrote:Stop trying to change the game!

That was only done because the AFL view the GF date as locked in due to logistics. Vowed "1990" would never happen again.plugger66 wrote:We do actually have extra time in all the other finals so it isnt that new.Enrico_Misso wrote:Stop trying to change the game!

I don't like that and am glad we haven't been involved in one of those extra time finals.

so why the F*** couldn't those overpaid idiots that run the AFL work that out BEFORE yesterday is my question.plugger66 wrote:Just think footy is that professional now and with functions organised last night it has to be decided on the day. Always reactive, howabout being PROCACTIVE for once AFL?
It's not like all this is a surprise, was bound to happen sometime, be it this year or in the next 10 or 20.
Maybe Demetriou can apologise to my wife for stuffing up our holiday plans for next week, and those that have weddings/auctions/operations booked etc etc etc....
An absolute bloody farce!
Enjoy rolling in the cash Dimwit
I think it should be decided on the day but plenty do not. It isnt as simple as you paint it. It is tradition. It isnt like AD plans for the draw but I suppose better to just abuse the AFL.saintspremiers wrote:so why the F*** couldn't those overpaid idiots that run the AFL work that out BEFORE yesterday is my question.plugger66 wrote:Just think footy is that professional now and with functions organised last night it has to be decided on the day. AD just stated there are no immediate plans to change the G/F from being a draw and a replay- BUT would most likely any replay would go to extra time as to play 3 grand finals in a year not a good idea..

i may be the odd one out on this issue, but I like our unique place in world sport, i like the fact our game is our own, and i like the fact that in the ulitmate game, if their is no outcome no result, then we come back to the well and play it again!
I support the draw replay for a grand final, and only the third time in over a hundred years is not a reason to over react and change.

Just looking forward to us having a real crack each week, and appreciating the younger talent coming through.
Sounds good to me but I was actually with a mate.maverick wrote:Let's change it because Plugger's sitting on his own and a club functionplugger66 wrote:Just think footy is that professional now and with functions organised last night it has to be decided on the day.
