The Case For St Kilda

Post: # 995780Post Legendary »

Let's outline why we will WIN on Saturday.

1. We are 4 wins from out last 5 against Collingwood, including 2 big finals on the MCG, and 5 wins from 6 if you include the NAB Cup this year.

2. Last time Collingwood beat us, we had 8-10 players with the flu, we had Roo in his 2nd game back, we had personal issues with our coach, and we were coming off a long winning streak. Our form has improved considerably since, and our defensive pressure and zone has worked a treat against the Dogs and Geelong in stages.

3. Riewoldt. Superstar. Champion. Courageous. Unstoppable. This guy was made for September and the MCG. Has torn Collingwood apart in the finals matches he has played against them. Fully fit and in good form, and rested after a few months break.

4. Coaching. Ross the Boss is switched on, he' s been here before, he knows what it takes, and he understands better than anyone the gameplan Malthouse is trying to implement.
Ross used to be charged with "unpicking" the opposition gameplans at the Swans. He is a weapon for us, and if anyone can find holes in the Malthouse approach, it's the Boss.

5. Defence. We are statistically the best defensive side EVER in the AFL/VFL over a two-year period. Ever. When we are motivated and fit (as we will be on Saturday), we understand and do pressure/intensity/tackling BETTER than anyone.

6. We hold the AFL/VFL record for the most number of tackles EVER in a grand final. We won't lose for lack of pressure.

7. Lenny. Just as good as the blonde bloke. Can physically will a team over the line almost like no other man I have ever seen. Will take the other mids along with him. Will bleed to win.

8. Standing up in close finals. We have played two finals where we have been tested. We've stood up. Held off the Cats and withstood the Dogs first half pressure. Nothing like good form and experience in high-pressure close games.

9. Find me 30 blokes at a footy club who have dealt with more personal adversity than the Saints in 2010, and have come through stronger. Bloody full of character.

10. The Big Show. Make no mistake, Mick Gardiner is going out with a bang on Saturday if we win the flag, and I reckon he won't be afraid to put a few into medically induced retirement if it means a premiership.

11. Been there before. We understand the week. We know the adulation. We get the hype. We get the nerves. We know that it's a game of footy. We are as prepared mentally as you could possibly get. We have 18 blokes who've played in a GF. The opposition has 4.

12. Redemption. Nothing burns, hurts, hits you in the heart like '09. Steel in the eyes of BJ, Lenny, Roo and the rest. They will NOT want that pain ever again. It hits deep, and it's not a place those blokes are ever visiting again.

Hope your on the money with point 10.

It's old fashioned to say go out and knuckle a few...but it's been missing from our game for a few years now. Love to see the big fella come out and lay a few out early, catch them off guard with a few haymakers

His sister passed away that week.

I love seeing the footage of MG throwing a thousand of them from the Derby, it's probably 10 years ago now, but it was a great bit of biffo!!!

Saints people know in their hearts what going to happen on Saturday! It's a beautiful thing! I too think the men in this game should teach the boys a thing or two about physicality!! Reduce the bench, reduce their impact! Win at all costs Saints!!!!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
