Dr Spaceman wrote:From my memory it went a little like this:
We’re Saints we’re proud and we got a lot of fight,
We’re on the move and you’ll feel our might,
We hit em nice and hard, make em drop their guard,
And we’re loyal to our mates, coz we’re the Saints,
Oh when the Saints etc
We’re Saints we’re mean and we’re all mighty keen,
We’re chasing wins like you’ve never seen,
Let’s get em on the run, we’re not out here for fun,
And we’re loyal to our mates, coz we’re the Saints,
Oh when the Saints etc
How does the tune go? I'll learn it for Saturday and do a one-man rendition if it comes down to it.
I've always felt a little disappointed that our fanbase doesn't seem to have as many chants as some of our opposition.
I've got a cassette tape somewhere with this song on it.
If only I knew where!!!
I got a copy of this tape from the Saints shop when I came over in '91 to watch the final against Geelong.
From memory it had 3 songs on it. This one, the current theme song & Go Pugger Go Go Go by Greg Champion.
I loaned it to an ex-mate & have never seen it or him since.
St Kilda's 2 premiership captains are Tassie born. The Doc & Roo.

We are all traveling in the footsteps
Of those who've gone before
Today the fans stand united
Desiring to win one more
You get the general idea
We actually sing this song at my church, I've always loved it.
Heh i posted a link to Bruce's version this time last year.
Didn't think i could get away with doing it again... glad someone else did though it's a great version.
"I'm in the middle of a long conversation with my audience. It'll be a lifelong journey for both of us by the time we're done." - Bruce Springsteen.
Does anyone remember the song from the Lindsay Fox era?
"Oh when the Saints go marching in, you will see a flag unfirl, we're on top down at Moorabbin when the Saints go marching in"
I remember in the 80's that the theme was similar to the current one but at least one extra verse... I distinctly remember the folllowing verse being sung.
Oh when the Saints
Go marching in
With strong defence and bold attack
Oh how I want to be with St Kilda
That old red white and black.
I hope to be chanting this sometime late on Saturday:
Who ate all the Pies?
Who ate all the Pies?
You! St Kilda
You! St Kilda
You ate all the Pies!
"... You want to pose a threat to the opposition in as many ways as you can, both defensively and offensively. We've got a responsibility to explore all those possibilities - and we will."

It is great, I never noticed it was Bruce in your avatar
"Oh I do love to be beside the seaside
Oh I do love to be beside the sea
Down at the Junction there's a football ground
And that's where the Saints all hang around
So let's give 3 cheers for ol' St Kilda
For this year the premiers they may be
Though it's not yet in the bag
We've got hopes of winning the flag
Beside the seaside, beside the sea".
Wouldn't take a lot to upgrade the lyrics to a more contemporary theme. What were they thinking with "next years premiers we will be"? Shouldn't it be "this years premiers"? Change "hope to win a flag" to "we've got plans to win the flag"

Contrast that with "The Premiership's a cakewalk"!
Perhaps we need something between the absolute arrogance of the Pies and the almost embarrassing humility of the original version.
So I'll go with your "we've got plans to win the flag" but change the 5th line to "For this year the premiers they will be"
