Sorry Mr Magic .. I misunderstood.

We should all consider this - whatever side we're on ..
..if we could have offered Ball the same money as Collingwood and he still decided to leave - then his actions (and I believe actions always speak louder than words) would have suggested that he was unhappy with St Kilda and it wasn't just about the money.
but..
Because Collingwood was able to offer $170,000/annum more - it just clouds the whole issue - and money becomes the overriding consideration by default..

Would he have gone to Collingwood if they offered the same as ST Kilda ??

One thing's for sure ..
Collingwood going forward will have a Salary Cap problem .. their players clearly deserve to be paid more than Geelong's for instance... based on last week anyway.

Ball was OVERPAID for years in the hope that he would get his body right and return the faith paid in his potential. As soon as his salary was reduced to "fair and reasonable" he was off to the next club that would overpay him.

Then he was happy to leave via a draft tampering loophole.

His choice to be a Pie.

I am a Saints fan and favour St Kilda players. Ball is not a Saint.

He is now one of THEM..and not one of US.

Come on girls.

I think you should hug and make a pinkie promise to put these irrelevant issues to one side until next week.

I think we actually had the money to offer him more, but chose not to.
I think they felt he was worth 333k and that was what they offered him.

We still had the money to buy Lovett and Peake.
Had we decided we needed to pay more to keep Ball, tehn we most likely wouldn't have got both of them (maybe only 1) and taken an additional kid in the draft.

But the List Management people obviously decided that 335k was all they were prepared to offer him, for what he brought to the team.

Collingwood assessed that he was worth 500k to them and acted accordingly.

But he is now a Collingwood player (by choice), and therefore needs to be treated by us as such.

DId we want Ditterich to beat us when he played for Melbourne?
DId we want Stewart to beat us when he played for Richmond?
DId we want Perovic to beat us when he played for Carlton?
DId we want Lockett to beat us when he played for Sydney?
Did we want Winmar to beat us when he played for Footscray?

the list goes on and yet there is some morbid desire by a select few on here to try and 'gild' the poison that is an opposition player.
ANd worst of all, opposition by choice and attempting to stop us winning the premiership.

When he comes back to us (if he ever decides to) then he'll rightfully be accepted back as a Saint - not before.

How do you hug a snake? :)
(besides very carefully)

I've said my piece to the particular poster concerned. I won't respond to him anymore because all he's probably trying to do is misdirect the debate onto a path he'd like it to go.

If an average Collingwood player commands $500,000/annum (the average AFL player is on $220,000/annum) .. how is their salary cap looking going forward ?

It will be an interesting spectacle to see how they fit all their 'amazing youngsters' in under the cap in 2-3 years time when they start coming out of contract adn commanding real wages rather than their current ones.

Maybe by then Ball, Jolly and who knows else will be finished adnthey'll have room to keep them all?

Thinline wrote:I've mentioned it another post, but it's equally worthwhile pointing it out here.

I look at Brett Peake who, at the direction of the coach and the team, has gone from 'outsider personified' to a bloke who is still willing to run and carry and spread to space, but is equally willing to stick his head over the ball and sacrifice himself physically for the greater good. He's been dropped along the way. But he has doggedly reinvented himself for the betterment of his team.

Then I look at Luke Ball who's apparently gone: "I can earn more elsewhere without reinventing myself for my coach and my close team mates - the one's with whom I've come so close - and the place that's shown a shitload of patience with me while i've managed my injuries."

Way I see it, it's all about the choices you make.

I'll take Peake thanks.
Spot on the money Thinline.

I'd take Peake over LB any day of the week. His commitment and willingness to improve - in only one year - has been awesome and the reason he has had success in 2010.

I wouldnt read another forum at all. You can if you like. Do you honestly think it is his choice where he trains? Please try to make some common sense unless you want to get down to other forums levels.

Plugger, it's called emotion. You need to give some of your fellow posters a break sometimes.

I loved Luke Ball and was shatted when he went, hence the anger. Even you would understand that.

'Shatted'...

Sounds messy...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I guess the big danger to Collingwood is if Ball is risking a further injury to a suspect hamstring if he plays! A few less on the Collingwood bench will hurt their rotations, and ultimately hurt their chances! Interesting to see if he lines up!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
