My group missed out of seats, now looking at the bloody queue bizzo on Friday night/Saturday morning.

Anyone else going to be in the MCC queue?

Missed the ballot too. Posted on facebook hoping to get a couple if there are any cats or dogs supporters out there who don't want them, otherwise will be camping out. All nighter though not sure but will probably get there straight after the parade and settle for the evening, get my seat then go home and sleep for a few hours .

I got row "O' top deck.

You might think about going home to sleep immediately after you are issued with your seat ticket (gates open at 8:00 AM) but then return in time for the match.

6 hours being entertained (detained) by Andrew Demetriou is too much to take.

If you take your car in that early (no public transport at that time) you will find most of the car park gates still closed but the gate north of the members stand (gate 3) is opened early, presently advertised as 5AM ($8).

Strangely my mates seem to get second level on the wing every year. Just got seats in AFL members but will give that away this year and joining the MCC members on the lucky seats on the wing.

Last year - joined the queue at 6am, in the drizzle, already about 1000 people there, most of the way up the hill.
This year - 5am, I think. Get seat ticket by 8:15. Then head home for a snooze. I may have to miss INXS.

Philtee's advice seems the best so far -- 5.00am to be 1000th in line.
We'd really appreciate anyone's advice who's queued before.

have queued twice. depends if overnight or early morning. If early morning i wouldn't bother with a chair as you will need to dump it before moving so perhaps an hour or so of use ( unless of course you need it due ot injury , age etc).
If overnight definitely need a chair and sleeping bag/blanket. also food and drink. Time depend on where you want to sit really considering over half already gone.

May be 9000 Collingwood supporters but the saving grace is due to the cost of membership most will have teeth and some perhaps able to hold a conversation without grunts!

I have missed out on ballot three years in a row!
Last year i got there about 2.00 am and there was already a queue about 50m long.
Got great seats on level 2 in front of coaches box.
This Sat I am going to go to ground level seats.
I took a chair and took it back to the car about 7.30 then went back to my spot in the queue ready for the 8.00 dash to the seats!

4am Saturday morning? Would want to start a heck of a lot earlier than that. An uncle queued up last year (Geelong supporter) and got there the night before at 6.30pm only to get level 2 - back. Collingwood supporters will be lined up days before hand if they are not there already......

Mate got there last year at midnight exactly.

Got great seats on Level 1.

Don't be put off - a LOT of people RUSH up to Level 2, where there are hardly any walk-up seats.

The trick (I believe) is to get there before 2am, as that seems to be when the queue goes from 50m to 500m.

They wont let you take your chair into the ground and you have to get to a seat, OR level 3 to level 4 stairs to get your seat ticket.

Don't take a chair.
Don't take a bag.
While you are waiting to be security checked people who joined the queue half an hour later will be entering the ground.

Once you get your seat ticket you have hours to go retrieve your bag from your car.

Cousin last year started lining up in the queue at 5am and it was already really long. I would say get there early, especially this year as collingwood are playing. Cousin is heading in at 3am, getting seat then going home to sleep before game. If your not close to city might be a good idea to get hotel room?

Take a drive past there Thursday lunch time. Being that it's the filth that we are playing, I wouldn't be surprised if they are lining up day or so before hand. Quite a few of them are MCC members. They filled a fair portion of the MCC stands last year when we played them in the finals. One young guy and his mother that we have run into a few times playing the pies said they would be there the day before. Better safe than sorry I say.

1st time in 10 years I've missed out in the Ballot!!

Guess I was due!!

Will drive down from the bush Friday night and camp out at the G overnight and get over to my daughters place, a mere 15 min tram ride to Brunswick for a bit of shuteye after securing a seat, then tram back meet the mates for the traditional Midday Yum Cha at Southbank .

We then complete our game preparation by taking the water taxi up the Yarra to the G in time for the bounce!!!

It's all good ( bar the camp-out) and this year it will be even "gooderer" 'cos we will WIN!!!!

One tip this year - if I'm gonna be queuing for more than 3 hours, I'll bring a seat - just one of those small camp stools. Dump it by the side
of the queue at 7:55, it will probably still be there when you get back out at 8:20.
Last year, when I left the ground at 8:20-ish there were over a hundred folding chairs, stools etc dumped beside the path where the queue
had been, and no-one was touching them. You can get yours back, or upgrade !

(Er, when I say "stools beside the path", I mean small chairs.)

Letter to member A

Congratulations due to your team missing out and on you returning your allocated ballot seat you are entitle to a 10% deduction on next years subs.

Letter to member B

Congratulations your nominated team (and a team you are a paid uip member of) has qualified for the Grand Final. As you missing out in the original ballot, you have now recieved priority to returned tickets as part of the MCC's new 'Get genuine fans in' policy.


edit : prob stupid, everyone would apply in the hope of getting the 10%.

I just wish of the 12000 or so walk ups say 3000 primo seats went at 7am to fans holding two membership cards MCC & club.

It is hard to distinguish Collingwood supporters from the beggars unless they have a scarf. Then a lot of beggars have black and dirty white scarfs too.

Dumping the stool at 7:59 may be a better strategic move.
While the Collingwood supporters are fighting over who gets to steal it you will get into the ground and a find a good seat ahead of them.

My best MCC seating experience was 2005 when I rolled in around 9:30 expecting a seat high on L4.
But as I passed L2 I ducked in and asked the attendent if there were any singles left and he said "You're in luck".
Got a front row seat dead in line with the centre circle - best seat in the house

But of course that wasn't two Vic teams and no Collingwood.

All those reserved seats really riles me.
I suspect the proportion reserved will gradually creep up each year.

I filled out their sirvey urging them to either do away with the reserved seats (unlikely)
or make sure all the best seats are for walk ups.

So if you are keen (ie your club us playing) you will make th eeffort and queue up for a good seat.
If you are just a spectator you turn up late and sit up the back.
