Brett Peake- Official Grand Final Support Thread

Post: # 992419Post dcstkfc »

Peakey, a lot of people criticised you at the start of the year. Many questions were asked about your output, and perhaps people were dubious about any recruit from Freo. But after a spell at Sandringham and some time getting a grip on Saints Footy, you have turned things around and have become a consistent contributor.

You started to show some real improvement on our two mid-season trips to Perth, but when I really stood up and noticed you was when you showed some real courage by going hard into packs against the Cats in Round 13.

On Saturday, we desperately need you to provide some run and carry against the Pies who have speed galore, and a zone which is very difficult to break down. If you can do this, perhaps kick a classy goal or two as you have done a few times in 2010 and play a plucky, diligent defensive game as well, it will go a long way to winning St Kilda a premiership.

Good luck Peakey!

Well done Brett, I was a bit of a doubter at the start of the year. In Ross and his staff we trust. You're hitting form at the best time of the year. Have a big one on the day!

The experience of playing finals footy will make him a better player again next year.

he did play in a prelim in 06. But yeah i think it took him to adjust to saints footy and know where and when to run. also just to have the confidence to call for the ball. So slotting in nicely now and getting in the right positions. he knows when its his turn to go at the contest and when its his turn to run to space and receive. well done !

i reckon he's had an excellent finals series and can and should top it off with a good game in the big one. he'll be matched up against probably shaw, or maybe maxwell or o'brien, so he's got a huge responsibility to make them accountable. and i reckon he's got the pace and stamina to do that.

I stated pre-season that Peake would this years "Farren Ray" for us...and he has delivered.

His second half of the year has been excellent.

Love how he is so hard out....no sign of being a "soft" outside player at all.

As the season progressed, he has learnt the gameplan and when and where to run...and now links beautifully

Also noticeable that he really worked on his kicking: early in the season he was kicking under the ball too much with high balloon kicks. He is now kicking longer and more accurately.

On the very wide MCG players with Peake's pace is a major asset.
