Some reasons to keep your confidence after last night...
We went in last time with flu ridden players.
Geelong really haven't been as dominant this season- they seemed to look less motivated all year.
We have the benefit of knowing how the Pies will be playing after last night.
We can do intensity as well as anyone.
Nick Riewoldt is not going to drop everything that comes into our forward line.
Last year will motivate us to not go down without a fight.
Lenny Hayes won't give them first touch every time the ball bounces.

How will this have any bearing whatsoever on tonight's game?
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Yep, its hard to keep the confidence up after last night.
Still think we will win tonight, but can't face the thought of another losing GF, especially to the PIES. Couldn't handle it.
I was interested to hear Anthony Hudson on SEN this morning. He was saying that he thinks Pies are well suited to the Cats and that our last game against the Pies was not representative of where we're at (Nick second up and shouldn't have played, Dal was out, others with Flu). He thought we'd match up against them quite well and could be a tight game. That being the case, anything could happen.
Gotta be in it to win it of course, so hopefully all will go well tonight...
Come on Sainters!!!!!

Agree. If we can't win tonight and win well, then we would be no chance next week anyway. we need to make a statement tonight.markp wrote:If we cant put the dogs to the sword tonight we may as well give it away.Thinline wrote:How will this have any bearing whatsoever on tonight's game?
The players cannot afford to look past this weekend... we can.
The players will be focusing only on the task at hand. THat's how they've been drilled. But we have the luxury of looking forward, even if we shouldn't. The Pies certainly made a statement last night, just as the Cats did in the corresponding prelim last year. We need to do the same.

- it was Collingwoods MOST accurate goalkicking performance for the year
- it was our LEAST accurate

Nothing more could have gone right for the pies. When Brown kicked that goal that turned 30 metres at a right angle through the middle you just think it's their night. But a minute later he absolutely shanks a kick that drops short onto the chest of Didak. Who lines up the angle on the good side for a lefty.
Steve Johnson went into the middle and got first hands on the ball again and again. I'll back our specialist mids to do the same.
They were good. The cats were tired. And I'm not as impressed as the rest of the world seems to be.
And how skinny are a heap of their players?
They are boys. We are men.

How awesome did Geelong look last year when they walloped Gollingwood by 73 points?saintnick12 wrote:Agree. Were they any less awesome looking than Collingwood last night?
I don't think so.
We beat WB by 7 points in our PF last year.
Did Geelong wallop us in the GF?
IMO, we cost ourselves a premiership with wasted opportunities during the game, in conditions that suited our opponents much more than us.
Why should I fear Collingwood more than Geelong last year?
Just because the media is pumping then up?
I don't think so.
I've got faith that our Coaching staff know what they're doing and that our players won't fall for the premature adulation of the toothless feral filth and their sycophantic media.

Disagree with part one...if we get there, anything can happen on the day. A Pie supporter could have said the same after their loss to Hawthorn, look at them two games later.markp wrote:If we cant put the dogs to the sword tonight we may as well give it away.Thinline wrote:How will this have any bearing whatsoever on tonight's game?

Agree with part two...Ross will have drilled that into them for two weeks, it is only the next two hours of football that matter. Win that, assess it, forget it & look ahead to the next two hours!

I think Collingwood's win last night has more credit to it than Geelong's prelim win last year. Collingwood just were not good enough last year, bit like us against Hawks in 2008.Mr Magic wrote:How awesome did Geelong look last year when they walloped Gollingwood by 73 points?saintnick12 wrote:Agree. I think Geelong are still a great team, but Pies made them look very ordinary last night. And playing them next week if we win tonight scares me. Yes, I think we'll win tonight and win well. And I think we'll be in with a big show next week. It's not as clearcut as most in the media are making out. But we'll need everything to go right.
The only thing better than winning the GF would be beating the PIES to win it. Can't wait to wipe that smile off their faces. Just feeling a lot more nervous today than yesterday after last night.

If we get past the Dogs and meet the Pies, I think our midfield are just going to have to get amongst the goals a bit more which I think is our biggest weakness, Lenny, NDS and Ray for running players, need to be kicking more goals! - Swan and co kick quite a few goals as well as getting heaps of the ball.

Their midfield has to kick goals to compensate for their forwards not kicking goals.spert wrote:If we get past the Dogs and meet the Pies, I think our midfield are just going to have to get amongst the goals a bit more which I think is our biggest weakness, Lenny, NDS and Ray for running players, need to be kicking more goals! - Swan and co kick quite a few goals as well as getting heaps of the ball.

I know we have the small matter of the prelim still to come, but if we get there we need to not worry about the playing like the pies and just do our best to keep them from touching the ball. They pepper the goals and back themselves to keep it in their forward line until they score again. We have 2 star rebounders and a few others including Peake who can replicate what Wojak did in the few good passages of play that the cats did. If we don't let them get it as much it makes the attack less favourable to them. I would like see us just attack like we did in the first quarter against Geelong, our version of uptempo, tempo footy.
