How will a St Kilda premiership change you as a supporter?

How will a St Kilda premiership change you as a supporter?
Will it lessen your stress-levels at the footy?
Make you more confident while watching a game?
Or, will that feeling of ecstasy that can only come with seeing your club win a premiership be so bloody magical that you will desperately want to experience the same thing again and again and again, thus making you more nasty/fickle/twitchy during a season?
We say we just want that one flag and what happens after that won't really matter because we've seen that premiership, but I'm not sure that's how it works...

I'd definitely live happily on it for five years. Then for the next 15 it'd be a point to dwell on in the hard times.sainterinsydney wrote:If we win the flag this year, I will definitely enjoy next year's season alot more; the sense of urgency is gone. Furthermore, I could live on this flag for at least 10-15 years.
After 20 years it's a drought again, but at least I'll be able to say I saw one.
STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.

I'll be a much more pleasant person.
44 years of frustration, anger and pain will be removed.
Will no longer feel the world is against us.
Might look at the world differently.
Will be compassionate, even to Carlton and Collingwood supporters.
Might even applaud good play of opponents.
Perhaps put flowers in my hair and buy a combi-van.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
I like the rest but that one I don't. In my opinion applauding the opposition is wanky. On occasion I have said 'bloody hell, that was a good mark' or similar, but clapping and cheering are reserved for my team only.Enrico_Misso wrote:I'll be a much more pleasant person.

I'll have no idea until it actually happens, and I feel the delirium and ecstacy...
But I'd say that the overwhelming emotion would be relief. Eventually, I'll be able to guide opposition supporters to "2010" as the answer to all questions football-related. For 12 months anyway.
As previous posters have mentioned, it will definitely be something to hang my hat on in future years when we are struggling. A memory to look back on and say, "Hey, we won one x years ago!".

The Saints are coming!
It would definitely make supporting St Kilda easier for that reason.True Blue Sainter wrote:I'll have no idea until it actually happens, and I feel the delirium and ecstacy...

"Riewoldt's a better player, he captained a premiership" etc.
When a Carlton supporter asks sarcastically, "how many flags have you won?" we would then be able to come back with, "when was the last time you won a flag? ... 15 years ago? You can still remember that far back!?"
That would roll of the tongue so sweetly.
We know how good we've been over the last two years, but a premiership and only a premiership would allow this brilliant group led by an inspirational skipper and a master-tactician to be forever remembered as a truly great side.
Win two games and they are suddenly immortalized.

At the risk of being howled down, in one respect it will be sad to see St Kilda win a premiership. The legendary story of our only premiership being won by a wobbly kick for a point against the almighty Collingwood just wont be the same if we win another flag...
Yes, the story will live on as to how we won our FIRST premiership, but ONLY premiership has a little more romanticism to it dont you think???

A mate of mine is a Bombers fan and whenever we are doing better than/ beat Essendon he always says "come back when you've won another fifteen premierships" - well as I say to him -
"All I want is one, Barry. *sigh* All I want is one"
as for what I would do if we ever win the premiership, I honestly don't know. I was so close last year - I can't possibly imagine what it would feel like. I have nothing to compare it to but the happiest I have ever been was when I saw my wife walk down the aisle at my wedding last year - so I imagine it would be akin to that.
As many have already stated, I hope one day I get to say what it actually does feel like.

Like as some have said, I don't really want to get ahead of myself, We have to win this Saturday night and IF we win, its not going to be an easy Grand Final no matter who we play.
But if we do win the flag, the thing I look forward to saying the most, is when was the last time you saw your team win a flag, no matter which club it is, Carlton 1995, Essendon 2000, Collingwood 1990 etc etc. We can say ummmm 2010
I love the idea of being reining premiers for 12 whole months, instead of seeing the heart ache of when they keep showing Geelong, it could be the saints we see all thru the 2011 season.
Now back to real world, we have a prelim this weekend.

I am excited to stay at St Kilda and this is a great result for the Club and all our fans. I’m proud to be part of the Saints and am pleased to be playing football with the Clubâ€

Yes true but think of it this way. We could very well win our second flag against Collingwood with a very wobbly behind from the boot of Zac DawsonFortiusQuoFidelius wrote:At the risk of being howled down, in one respect it will be sad to see St Kilda win a premiership. Would just mellow me out a fair bit. Would be happy with the fact that in future years when we start to struggle again I could just pop on the DVD and remember how good it was.
If we make the granny and lose it again this year I will be a very sad bitter person for awhile....

I would be able to cross off "See St.Kilda win a Premiership" on my "Things to do/see before I die" list.
Oh Jeez, it would feel like an enormous weight being lifted. I would definitely cry like a big girly-man. At the same time, it would almost feel surreal. I had a dream last night that they won and it was very surreal. I think it would take a few days for it to sink in that they had actually done something only achieved once before in the club's 113 year AFL/VFL history.
That being said, I will always be a die hard Saint and will continue to be a supporter through the thick and thin.

I have been observing a couple of Geelong supporters and trying to visualise walking around with my head lodged up my arse. Everyone needs to practice the outrage when umpires give a free kick against us. I am also watching collingwood players practicing bagging out the opposition.
Basically I am going to be joining the arseholes that make up the rest of the afl supporters.

It will be the greatest day of my life, for a start (apart from the birth of my kids.
I never played in a flag team in my footy career so to see the saints finally win number 2 will be awesome.
Then I'll be able to face each footy season with no pressure and anxiety, and can actaully enjoy a few more games.
oh and many thanks to hsvking 84 (Aaron) for fixing up my registration.
