Tommy Walsh Flying!

Post: # 984513Post marksnsparks »

Was listening to the Run Home on SEN last night and they were saying Tommy Walsh was expected to play most of this year in the Sandy seconds, but will be in the top 3 B&F for Sandy instead!

My mouth is watering for next season already!

Sadly, the these comments were followed by "unlike the other Tom down there..."

I assumed the other Tommy was Mr Lynch, though a little premature to write him off just yet!

And maybe it was Finey...they were discussing Marty Clarke just beofre that. I'm usually in heavy auto pilot on the drive home so apologies for the inaccuracy.

I heard it too.
It was around 7:30 in Finey's show.

The Tom Lynch line was disappointing.

Boys and Girls that TW discussion was in responce to my text!

They were talking about Marty Clark so I thought I would flick Finey one about Tommy!!!!

You beauty! Yes I was stoked to have my name and suburb read out! haha

And I was a little unsure what exactly the 'other Tom' comment meant!

I thought Tom Lynch was doing okay? He managed to crack a game with the Saints - although a poor one - that doesn't suggest he is underforming to me...

I would expect some considerable improvement next year.

Assuming he remains fit, then 4-6 games with respectable performance would be the goal IMO.

Maybe I'm asking too much, but I would have thought that a first round draft selection into his third year (next year) who is not overly tall, would be banging down the door to get a game every week next year.

I'm possibly very harsh on him, but after a pies supporting mate of mine told me about his carry-on in Rd 3 when we played the pies, - which was yelling out at Travis Cloke in a derogatory fashion, and talking in a loud voice, so that anyone within the vicinity could hear that he was a saints listed player, etc etc (until he was told to shut the fu%k-up!! by some very pis%ed of pies supporters)

I wasn't impressed but thought 'at least the kid has confidence. He's obviously close to cracking it for a game.' Was looking fwd to him backing up the talk. Didn't get a game until late in the year and was woeful when he did.

Maybe it's taking him a long time to mature on and off the field :?

It's hard cracking into a team that has won 39 of it's last 48 games.

If we weren't going as well, Lynch would have played more games but he needs to do a lot more than he is to get a regular game in a serious contenders side.

That's not a dig at him, not many 2nd year forwards would be cracking into our side at the minute.

Well Tommy grew up as a passionate Saints fan.....so maybe he still has to transition from "fan" to "player" ?

Quite possibly SR. I have to admit part of me found the story amusing. But I didn't like the big noting that was apparently going on.

It was Mark Fine who said that St Kilda were very happy with Tommy.

Then went on to say later something like 'St Kilda are not happy with another Tommy but that's another story...' I assume he meant Lynch but he didn't elaborate.

Well I think his performance in the Essendon game will have "cured" him.

Who knows maybe, just maybe, Lyon played him on Fletcher to drive home how much he needed to step up and improve if he wanted to make the big league

Reading the various posts on here regarding Tom Lynch one would have to say there's a hell of a lot assumptions and innuendos but very little firsthand evidence.

Let’s not hang the bloke based on that

My thoughts, Riewoldt (Jack) didn't flourish until this year, that was after more than enough time getting a gig in the senior team, its this his 3rd or 4th year in the system?

Watts was meant to be the next big thing, and Lynch was considered the second best forward in the same draft. Both haven't exactly shown much at all, despite Watts having a lot more of an opportunity. Lynchy was named amongst the best players quite often for Sandy, his form warranted a gig in the seniors.

But wasn't he playing off the half back for Sandy? He played a completely different role when he played for the Saints. Anyway, he has only had two years in the AFL, and I think being a forward is similar to being a ruckman these days. Ie, you can't just turn up to a club as a kid and expect to just star from scratch the way a midfielder can. I am positive he will come good, I would have liked it to be this year, but that wasn't to be. When he does, he will be a star!

I think getting in the best for sandy hasn't got anything to do with playing for saints. Ross probably wants the players to play a role (certain way) therefore maybe the younger kids don't play the game plan very well?

Maybe, but I still think it comes down to opportunities and there simply haven't been many while this team keeps winning most of its matches.
