I just read Robbo's column in the Hun. It stank.
He accused Gwilt of diving.
But, more critically, he attacked the umpiring decision. It was there, it's been applied consistently through the season, and it took guts to call it last night. Kudos to Matt Stevic in what has otherwise been a maddeningly inconsistent year for umpiring decisions.
Robbo obviously doesn't give a s*** about supporting respect for umpires.

Well he would be good on here then.InkerSaint wrote:I just read Robbo's column in the Hun. It stank.

Throughout the entire last quarter I was abusing the umpires for not giving us a fair go. Everything was going Geelong's way.
I am really happy that Matt Stevic stuck to his guns and followed through with the free kick, even though the Geelong faithful were jumping out of their seats. It could've easily cost him a future umpiring spot in the finals but he did what was right and paid what was there.
Great job and I'm pretty sure he has won the respect of Saints fans everywhere...for a little while at least

The decision didn't cost the Cats the game, the umpire didn't cost the game, the poorly executed tackle didInkerSaint wrote:I just read Robbo's column in the Hun. It stank.

The spirit of the game, however, tells us Mooney was desperately unlucky.
This incident, in the fury of the game and softness under foot, meant Mooney had little or no room to manoeuvre as he tackled Gwilt, who immediately went to ground. Mooney simply followed.
Then came the decision.
As most eyes followed the ball into Ling's hands, then as it bounced through for a goal, Stevic was left for a few seconds to watch it all unfold, all the time with a hand in the air and whistle in his mouth.

What is this spirit of the game bulls***. Is the spirit of the game Geelong winning? Anyway you want to look at it, it was a fair dinkum free kick.SainterK wrote:The decision didn't cost the Cats the game, the umpire didn't cost the game, the poorly executed tackle didInkerSaint wrote:I just read Robbo's column in the Hun. The umpire actually showed some integrity for a change and paid a free. This is the mark of a good umpire; paying free kicks that are clearly there without any view of the context of the game affecting his decision. It doesn't matter whether it's the first minute or the last minute, its still a free kick any day of the week. The umpire is supposed to be an impartial judge.
Bloody Robbo.

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

Leigh Matthews (Ch7 and 3AW)
Brian Taylor (3AW)
Matthew Llloyd (SEN)
Terry Wallace (SEN)
Dermot Brereton (SEN)
AND.........
TOM HARLEY!!!!! (CH7)
It seems only muppets who have never played the game like imbeciles such as Mark Fine, Matty Granlan (SEN) and Robbo think it was not in the spirit of the game...
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

What more does he know than the average punter?SaintPav wrote:Robbo thought it was a not free........BUT the following thought that it WAS:InkerSaint wrote:I just read Robbo's column in the Hun. It stank.

Only difference is he gets paid for voicing his opinions. He should stick to writing about the facts and the fact is that it was a push in the back cos the umpire paid it.
Another opportunity awaits!

On the replay, I noticed how quick Leigh Mathews say it was a free.

Add Gary Lyon to that list.
Gary was the only one on Triple M today who was happy with the decision. Granted, most thought it was a free, they didn't think it should have been paid because of the timing (which is so ridiculous considering there shouldn't be different rules just because you are in the final 2 minutes of the game).
