Re: match ups
Would say Miles will be dropped if Fisher gets up. Otherwise, not bad match up.JABBER wrote:Miles- Varcoe
No chance. Stevie J is a given. Jones will get him.JABBER wrote: Baker - G Ablett
Chance, but would suspect Gilbert more likely.JABBER wrote:Dempster - mackie
See Ablett.JABBER wrote:Jones - Selwood
If they want Bartel to chase him. Lenny won't be tagging.JABBER wrote: Hayes - Bartell
What? Both backmen.JABBER wrote:Goddard - Enright

Gilbert on Mackie?? You realise they are both defenders??HSVKing wrote:Would say Miles will be dropped if Fisher gets up. Otherwise, not bad match up.JABBER wrote:Miles- VarcoeNo chance. Apart from that, I suspect you are right.
Re: match ups
Mackie does go onto a wing/forward pocket at times, I am saying this in that situation.#1GILL wrote:Gilbert on Mackie?? You realise they are both defenders??

Good call, I think we give it to Gilbert, he is quick enough and good enough at ground level, plus it means Ablett won't be able to outmark him.chook23 wrote:HAVE NO DOUBT cats trump card this game and all finals will be
ABLETT pushing forward
one out he is virtually impossible to contain
When on ball -Jones?
When forward ????????????
If he is getting on top, then Goddard to take him, and try and do as much damage as he can whilst taking care of Ablett.
match ups
Baker will not get Stevie Johnson if he does SJ is going to get free kicks every time Bakes touches him.G Ablett will play forward alot of the game and bakes should pick him up.Bartell stopped Hayes in the second half of the grand final and will used in the same roll . Goddard will play as a third tall and stop Enright run out of their backline.
trevor barker
Re: match ups
But that just robs us of Goddard doing the exact same thing to them. Why would we mess with something that works? He is our quarterback, and controls the play from there.JABBER wrote:Goddard will play as a third tall and stop Enright run out of their backline.
We only ever send him up forward if we are desperately struggling to hit a target.

Heard Ross L on MMM Yesterday that Baker will play & will go to Steve J.
Also saw Chappy had a knee complaint against Eagles, though he came back I would think he may not be 100%.
Mind you last time we beat them they were without Chappy & we were without Roey.
So those 2 match up will also go a long way.

Gilbert has never been the best defensive player we have. His strengths are his run out of the backline and his ability to intercept and mark kicks coming in.#1GILL wrote:Good call, I think we give it to Gilbert, he is quick enough and good enough at ground level, plus it means Ablett won't be able to outmark him.chook23 wrote:HAVE NO DOUBT cats trump card this game and all finals will be

But as a pure defender, he isn't our best option.
Cats have a brigade of quick forwards - Varcoe Stokes Byrnes Johnson - who we would struggle to man up on with our standard backline set up. Throw in Bartell Chapman or Ablett in the forward line and we are most definitely losing.
That is why the only way we can beat the Cats is if our midfield breaks even, Roo or Kosi beats their opponent, Milne or Schneider beats their opponent, and our pressure is at its suffocating best so that they have no clean delivery to their dangerous forwards.
Re: match ups
I will go so far to say you have managed to get everyone wrong. I reckon the only one with a chance is Hayes and bartel but i even doubt that one.JABBER wrote:Miles- Varcoe

Ablett - Jones
Hawkins - Dawson
Mooney- Blake
Johnson - Dempster or Gilbert if high
Chapman (if foward)- Baker
Roo- Taylor
Kosi - Scarlett
Mackie- Eddy ( if In) if not McQualter - tagging half forward
Ling - Dal
Varco - Peake
Geary- Stokes
Burns - Fisher
Give space to Milne and Scnieder as they have trouble with small forwards. If Mackie picks one up send him striaght to hthe square. Play through Milburne and enrights opponents as they zone off a lot.
ALL that menas nothing if we DO NOT KICK STRAIGHT!

The Fisher Byrnes match up is a worry if they decide to go through Byrnes to goal. Keeps Fisher accountable, and his speed cannot match Byrnes.
And I wouldn't be surprised if Ling went to Hayes.
Ling is not as quick as he used to be, Dal might outrun him.
Hayes would be our only midfielder who can beat Selwood, and they know that.
I reckon Goddard will get a hard tag, and Joey will be given space.
