Hopefully he is right to go next week. He is so important to our structure and game plan if he missed he would be really hard to replace

The hamstring is a muscle...
Corkies occur to muscles..
So what is wrong with a description of a hamstring muscle being corked?

Good Luck Sam!
Hope Sam gets up fit for Friday Night. As one of the Saints most inspiring players for a long time now just hoping he's able to take part against the cats. A vital link in the Saint Kilda chain.

Beau Waters had a corked hamstring this year and Steve Johnson had one a few seasons agosaintkid wrote:Exactly. That is such a laughable term, now hamstrings are getting 'corked' lol.derby Street wrote:Corked hamstring Yeah sure.
From physioadvisor.com.au
A hamstring contusion is a condition characterized by a bruise or 'corky' to the back of the thigh, usually as a result of a direct impact.

Usual term is hamstring contusion for a bruise to the back of the thigh. He seemed to have tweaked it in play rather than cop a hit on his hammy.saintsRrising wrote:Why?saintkid wrote:Exactly. Equally possible that he felt the tightness from the bruising after the cork occurred. Ie Contest X he gets corked. Contest Y he feels it yank.saintkid wrote:Usual term is hamstring contusion for a bruise to the back of the thigh. "The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Just admit that you didn't realise that a hamstring could be corked
Just admit that you don't know what you are talking about

Maybe so but I honestly didn't see him get a hit at the back of the thigh, hopefully it is a bruise, time will tell.Thinline wrote:Equally possible that he felt the tightness from the bruising after the cork occurred. Ok then...so a description of it being a corked hamstring is not so ridiculous then?saintkid wrote:

Well I have only being following footy for about 4 decades and have heard in common usage "corkies" for all of that period.saintkid wrote:

Whereas you are about the first person in that period to want to call it a contusion.
BOTH terms can be used....so I fail to see why your original point was valid.
It was not "laughable".

When I was studying one of my Uni subjects (Physiology), I was taught the term hamstring contusion not corky for a bruise to back of the thigh, hence my earlier post. I don't work in Sports Medicine but if the term "corked hamstring" is commonly used now for this condition I apologize. At least your post contains factual information rather than attacking the person.saintsRrising wrote:Well I have only being following footy for about 4 decades and have heard in common usage "corkies" for all of that period.saintkid wrote:

If it's a corked hamstring fantastic as every chance he could play next week BUT you have to admit the Saints have a sorry record in disclosing the truth about injuries and their likely duration. Now should it be a PULLED HAMSTRING then it is a different matter and perhaps a tad more serious.saintsRrising wrote:Ok then...so a description of it being a corked hamstring is not so ridiculous then?saintkid wrote:

Not sure why you quoted me as your statement does not relate to my post?derby Street wrote:

he was doing run throughs so youd think if it was a serious hammy they stop that.saint patrick wrote:Wasn't iced at at any stage and he was running the boundary post concern..,..chill everyone it was precautionary..at least I'mhoping like hell it was...so important to the structure ..fingers crossed

It happened in the 3rd, he was at the front of the pack in a marking contest and from what I could see he got a foot in his hammy, studs first.
He limped a little after it and then went off.
So either he strained his hammy while jumping for the mark, and the foot was incidental, or the foot did the damage.
Hoping it was the foot.
