I have lived in Canberra since 1977 so have met very few players.

When I was about 11 I caught the train fro Lalor to the city and then to Genferrie Oval to watch the saints play Hawthorn (big trip for a yound lad). While I was walking to the gates I saw Darrel Baldock getting out of his car and lighting up. He smoked all the way to the ground. Times were different then.

My brother in law in Canberra is a landscaper. A year ago he did some work for Barry Breen's ex wife who lives up the road. He told her I was a long time saints supporter .. a 66 witness. She asked if I would like to meet him next time he visits!!!

Depends how you define 'met'. If you're talking brief encounters, I've met most of the current squad and a few past players (Buckets, Shanahan, Sir Robert and David Sierakowski off the top of my head).

In terms of having an actual conversation, the number drops dramatically. Had a decent chat with Gilbo at the Best & Fairest a couple of years ago when he had his broken arm. Really nice guy. The other notable is Robert Eddy, spent about half an hour talking to him at the season opener this year (helped that he was in the moon boot so he couldn't really run away). Talked about everything from his injury to a few interesting details of 'Mad Monday'.

Actually played in the Ammo's with a few of the lads (Vossy, Stewie, Banger, Tony Brown, Shanners as coach). All ripping blokes, especially Browny & Banger! Vossy loves a few drinks too!

I think that is what is called really meeting them. Just saying hi wouldnt be classed as metting them. By the way can you goes go to A grade this year?

I met johnpeterbudgefanclub's brother (ex Collingwood ruckman Wes Fellowes) when I was around 13.

He was going out with a friend of my mum's and they came around for lunch one day. He wasn't up to adult conversation as he wasn't the brightest spark but he was a massive fan of PC games as most kids were so we played games on my PC for the day.

Massive lump of a man. Real gentle giant. Sh1t at PC games, though.

Met a few guys back in the 90s I think they were calling themselves club 10 or something when I worked for Myer. Stewie Leowe was a family friend of a guy I worked with and was a really nice guy he got stirred by my mate into giving me a whole lot of signed promo crap. He was really humble and easy going. Met Gablett senior at the same time and he was quite possibly the biggest c**k I ever came across. Met Carey as well and he was trying to steal Abletts personality. Of all the footy players that I came across in that job Stewie and Richo were the only guys I would actually say were good blokes. Banger I met and I don't know if he didn't have much to say or he didn't want to be there, but he was fairly silent.

Trevor Barker...when I was a kid. Kicked the footy with me for about an hour. I was at Moorabbin with my grandfather midweek during school holidays...Probably early eighties. He must of been at a loose end. Gave us a tour of the place and took me out onto the ground for a kick.

What can you say...I mean...childhood hero..

Got absolutely hammered drunk with Rob Muir at the social club in about 2004/2005.... The interstate game evenings/afternoons that the SC put on a few years ago were absolute magic. Expensive, but a heap of fun through the frontrunning Thomas years. He's a cracking bloke the mad dog....was a lot of fun. Until he smashed the bloke behind us.

Knew Buckets through work for a while when he was starting out in the building game. Quality individual. Used to pick up two toilet suites at a time, and put em on the racks of his truck....May not sound like much but dunny suites are generally packed in the most awkward cartons possible...and they weigh a good 30 kgs each....He would just hoik em up with ease....

Other than that...used to run into Tony Brown, Matty Lappin, Joel Smith and Aussie often while out on the town...they loved the casino back in the late nineties.

Have gone to a fair few games up in Sydney over the past ten years. Have gone to several post match functions. In say 2000-2004 there would be bugger all people around and the whole squad would come up for a couple of hours. Used to chew their ears off. Pretty embarassing really. Had to apologise to lenny and Kosi last year at training once as they remembered how loaded we were one time. That must wear pretty thin after a while.

P66 - Yeah, we're still in contention, sitting on 2nd leading into the finals!

Beej - I remember a training night, we were just doing some circle work, and Stewie absolutely drilled the ball to me. It stung my hands as I marked it, then I run to my left and it's Banger running past for the handball. I dished it off and was just in amazement.

Haha This is the most amazing St Kilda related story I've ever heard. I would seriously be in dreamland if I were you.

I think he was just impressed that i knew who he was. Nice bloke though.

I called out "Harves", although it had to take all of my willpower not to remind him of how much I absolutely idolise him... Champion bloke though, so humble.

My dad was close friends with Beverages through St.Peters Jnr Football club so i went to alot of St.Kilda training sessions and even got to go into the locker rooms as a kid. Never forget having Harves and Burkey ask me how i played in the Under 9's on the weekend.

Also a lifelong Sandringham fan although i dont get there much now. I used to goto every home game and going into the rooms after the game and having Trevor Barker by me a pot of coke

. My most treasured possession is a Copy of the "The ZebraStory". With Trevor writing, To Marcus Carn the Saints and the Zebras your friend always Trevor Barker. Its something I will never ever part with

My uncle is a Geelong supporter who lives in Israel. At the end of the 1995 season he heard that Gary Ablett Snr. was going on a Christain pilgrimage to Israel.

My uncle tracked Ablett down and took him on a tour of the country for a day. He has a photo with God at the Western Wall.

I met Stewie at the country races one time. He was on a bucks night(day) and he stood out because of how much bigger he was than everybody else.

My old man went and had a chat to him, and from all reports he's a good bloke.

I meet a steady stream of people from the football industry coming in to have babies at work - clearly not appropriate to mention names.

Suffice to say - they usually look a lot more comfortable on the footy field or in the coaches box than in the maternity ward

Had a massive string of drinks by chance one night and ended up chatting with Bret Thornton and the O'Hailpin brothers in early 2005. I went to hail a cab, Thornton instead drove me home. Good form.

Some mixed stories from meeting with St Kilda players, most that aren't fit for here.

I don't like seeing AFL players on a night out.
