Cooney out of finals

Post: # 975931Post plugger66 »

I know its in the wrong forum for you forum police but it may effect the Saints. he is out for at least 5 weeks so if we play them at any stage he will not be playing. Johnson and Morris also out for the next 2. If we somehow beat the Cats and the Dogs do make it through to the prelim it may be an easier game than last year. Plenty to happen before then though.

Wrong Forum!!!

But seriously big blow for the Doggies (but don't like them or Cooney and especially Johnson) it will be pretty hard for them from here on in.

Makes it hard for the Dogs. Always felt they were a level behind the top 3 and would need everything going wright for them.

Good to hear that he will be able to still complete a proper pre season.

FWIW, I agree with your post though and agree it should be in this forum.

Cooney is a massive loss. He's their one midfielder who you have to tag. Boyd spends a lot of time following his direct opponent (but is a gun player, not with the same ball use and destructive ability as Cooney), whilst Cross is their #1 tagger.

Did anyone really think the Dogs looked like troubling anyone before Cooney got injured though?

they didn't look like it, but we should have a healthy respect for them after last season's preliminary final.

in fact, there are not too many teams in the final eight who are easy beats.

Always thought the dogs would be in trouble with an old forward line. Has proved to be correct. I think Johnno should pull the pin, can understand why he doesn't want to, but he is not thinking of the club.

difficult.....if it was banger...we would be hoping for a miracle...and that he could turn arund his form...but then banger knew when to retire...and never played a bad game...ever....

Even though i have always said the dogs are pretenders, I do feel for them, these injuries will put them out of the race for the flag, if they were ever in it.

I reckon things may be failing into place for us this year:
Pods out for 2
Cooney and Johnson injured
Hodge and Birchall injured
Our team just about full strength
Sadly Collingwood is full strength aswell.

Hopefully some pies players go down this week. We will be in with a real show this year

It's looking great for the Pies. They'll need to be full strength for us, and whether they're gloating or not, they've got some aweful karma debt.

Of course, I said that very thing in the opposition forum only recently. Last year they were absolutely contenders, and so incredibly hard to beat.

This year however

The only person who privately may be breathing a sigh of relief is Rocket Eade, personally think he would have been under serious pressure had the Dogs underperformed in September this year.

He got Aker, then specifically sought out Barry, and kept Brad on for another year for one reason alone, he needs to coach the Dogs to a flag.

He can now say they were 'cruelled' by injuries, and this has hindered their tilt at a flag in 2010.

Personally I believe was out of the question long before Cooney landed badly on the weekend.
