I don't see how that helps the club win the premiership.
Nothing to do with winning a premiership this year. Any palyer that came in from the 2nds is realistically not going to help us win a premiership. I am sure Collingwood, Geelong etc are not worried about an Alister SMith, tom Lynch , Simpkins etc coming into the side and being the difference.
We will finish third so will not be moving with a win this week.
More a long term move.
May be a rookie list issue not sure if a spot available but thought so with Lovett, Raph on LTI list.
If it doesn't help win the premiership, it either hinders or is neutral.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you wouldn't want the club doing anything that would hinder its chances of winning the premiership.

If it's neutral, you have to consider that the club could have done something differently that might have helped. Which makes it an effective loss.

So the question is what current loss is considered worth it for the potential future gains you've outlined? In percentage terms is easiest.

For me the answer is zero.

Maybe it will be time to get them back into the altitude van, if we win today. We apparently stopped that because we wanted to ensure we finished top 4, so that may come back into play. Even if it's just for a day or two each, it will have some sort of loading effect. Especially for those who didn't get a crack in there a couple of weeks ago.

He's a rookie, so it can't happen.
i'd be surprised if it happened. but i'm pretty sure there's a free spot or two. raph's on the long-term injury list. and we get a free upgrade after round 11. we've only used one of those two spots. (not sure if we can get a spot for lovett.)

Id skip the altitude van and go straight for the form van at this stage of the season for mine. Watching Geelong/Pies monster sides (some who beat us) suggests we have to use all available time to finals to hit our straps or face 08 exit all over again.

Id use the altitude van for hot dog sales at Moorabbin during finals - multi purpose van....

Well top 4 is guaranteed now.

However many of the 22 showed they still need to find better form.

Well we need him in form. Perhaps a confidence booster against Richmond.

Saints win, Freo lost, Doggies lost....

Helloooo altitude chamber!

Time to apply some sports voodoo... I mean science... and make sure that out guys are ready to undertake some mountain climbing if they happen to come up against an altitudinous (yes, I think I made up that word) achipelago (that one's real) in the finals.

shhhhhh dont let the secret out.
The one and only reason we have the altitude caravan is to get the players used to the three steps up the GF dias without getting dizzy

Big believer in resting players.

Good teams have done it in the past decade, often a little more subtly than us/Geelong last year.

No need to rest Riewoldt, but some of the midfielders with significant niggles...well, why not?

Rather have players at 100% for finals that 60-70%.

Flirting with form is just a ridiculous notion. The season is incredibly demanding and being smart about it can help clubs achieve maximum output when it matters - September.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Top 4 is locked away, but we could finish 4th (very slim chance I know).

I'd hate us to play the Pies in Week 1, so we may need to try and beat Richmond this weekend.

Dunno if we need to try and beat them, or if it will just happen

We'll beat the Pies.

Seriously, I know they're apparently red hot, but we played them with several of our own crook last time and in considerably worse form and before that the Pies have seriously been our bitch.

And now we're in better 'Nick' - excuse the pun...

Turn up to play with last year's GF defeat etched in mind and we'll muzzle the Pies.

I absolutely believe it.

Funnily enough SP, I have Freo finishing 4th, Doggies dropping to 5th.

I agree Thinline, even on a bad day, Collingwood were well down on getting inside 50 against our zone.

Top 4 is a lock but I doubt they will be flirting with training loads this close to finals. That horse has bolted.

As Ross said yesterday, it's about finding the missing 30% which means 4-quarter efforts in maintaining the team plays and structures. With 2 games left to put this into place I don't think there'll be any mucking around.

We all know what 4-quarter efforts look like from this group. Big-time smackings coming up. :)
