I thought at the time that King's suspension last year might be a blessing in disguise as it allowed us to get some games into McEvoy. He seems to get better every time he turns out. It will be interesting to see if the number one ruck tag will take him to another level or if it's too big a burden at this stage.
Swap him and Kosi in the Ruck from Full forward. Not much of a rest for the Big fella but he has good hands and can kick a goal. I reckon he will play more in the forward line in the future.
Thought his mark in the final quarter was the highlight for me. The replay does not do it justice. He read the play so well, coming from behind two players to mark strongly. Pretty quick for a player at his height.

Good mark, good kicking for a big man. Slightly slower than erosion, but seems to read the play well enough to cover for it.
Tapwork still needs to be better for mine. Seems to really niche at the moment as a mobile (ironic) ruck. If he continues to kick goals, he's going to be hard to displace from the side.

For a bloke his size, I couldn't give a stuff how quick he runs 50m. All I care about is his burst over the first 10m. And on that score he seems to go okay.

for a bloke his size he can get down quickly if it spills wrong and have another go- not backward in going in and under ..

By 50 games he should be making a more solid impact...and I would be hopeful that come this finals series that his improvement will be one of the factors in us having a better finals team this year than last.
Against the Roos he may be handed the challenge of being our No1 ruck for the game, and against quality ruck opponents it will interesting to see how he goes.
Schneider has improved, as has Gwilt.
Peake looks to be coming along nicely now as well.
If Ben can ramp up his recent form it is a good sign for us.

Not in a few years time when a young ruckman finally makes an impact.
St Kilda will be tanking to the bottom for some good draft picks by then.
He is the same age as Kreuzer and needs to cruise now.

I suppose you could say he goes okay, if by goes okay you meant that it doesn't really come up... I don't really care about his speed at all, his job is to get open or contest, not to lead.
On those occasions where he does perform a 10m type lead, I don't think it's really burst speed that gets him open so much as zones... and sheer shock that it turns out that he's trying to get out of amble...

Well another pretty good game from Ben against two good ruckman with Ben mainly only have support from Stanley who was brsushed aside in ruck contests.
So taking on the No 1 role I thought he did quite ok, even though North clearly won the total hit outs. Ben around the ground work was good...and he uses the ball well.
Give Ben a few more years and he will be a lt, lot better.
And Stanley once he gets some mass is going to combine with him to give is a pretty handy ruck duo.

A completely subjective thing that I really like about Ben McEvoy.
I got the impression that his approach was to read the ball in the air, and if he couldn't get the outright win himself (i.e. put the ball in the hands of his mids), just to make sure the other guy didn't. Very, very smart.
It's been shown over a number of years that the hitout itself is an absolutely useless stat. Only when the ball starts being directed to teammates is there any correlation to good things at all. Ben's taken a great approach here given that the AFL level art of the hitout is a long term lesson.
Stanley... well, I like the idea, he and Ben are almost opposite in the talents. I like the idea of the pairing more than the reality.
Perfectly happy to take McEvoy into finals.
