So is that assuming that we can't win the flag?Bernard Shakey wrote:I'm sure he knows more about footy and gambling than that.lennyeverywhere wrote:Was the bet placed by a guy named Eric of the movie variety?
And if someone earns $5 mill per movie, it's not a huge bet. He was at the club yesterday. What if he wins and gives the players $100,000 each. If I was cashed up, I am so devoted to the Saints, I may offer that as an incentive. When it comes to us winning the flag, some of us will do wahtever it takes. Just a theory. You don't reckon Pratt, Elliott et al bet on the premiership?
Just a theory.

If you have that much money and don't need any more I'd say give to charity.
Interesting that you mention Pratt and Elliott. Pratt knew where every cent came from and went to. He wouldn't gamble in a fit.
Elliott is an idiot, but not dumb enough to gamble on footy.

Even if you did earn a few million a movie - $500k is still a big big chunk.
Also, if it got out, Eric's rep could take a bit of a dent. Risky.
Who on here, even if you did have a few mil, would bet FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS on what seems at the moment
a hopeful prediction?
I wouldn't. If I were very rich, maybe a few grand, maybe ten, maybe more.
But not half a million dollars. Not at this stage anyway.
Unless someone's put together a consortium?

Pratt's an easy target - dead, philandering ex Carlscum President who was found guilty of price-fixing.
Like so many others within our society who showed similar traits and appetites.
But unlike many of them, Pratt was never backwards in coming forward to donate.
Maybe we should ask those institutions and individuals who received funds from his foundation why they didn't refuse his 'tainted money'?
In the last days of his life, whilst on his deathbed, he continued making donations to needy people.
By all means castigate/denigrate him for what he did wrong.
But I believe you should never belittle what he did right - and there are many within our society who received benefit from him.

I know he wasn't a crooked catholic, but he behaved like one.
Whoring, cheating, bullying, lying, philandering.
Then a few sheckles to the needy to make himself feel better...
Dog of a bloke, I reckon. Still, not doubt a few needy souls rightfully benefited.

Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

But I might humbly suggest that there are many in our society with similar predelictions, who do not (did not) see fit to help out others who were in need - as was their right.
All I'm saying is that Pratt whilst guilty of many sins also did some good and was not the devil incarnate some would like to paint him.
But I'm probably a lone voice on here trying to espouse that view.
BTW, would you concede that Amcor is lucky they weren't the sponsors of Carlscum otherwise they'd be universally villified as the corrupt organization Visy is/was and they aren't/weren't?
Especially considering it would seem from the evidence submitted, that they were the instigators of the price-fixing scheme.

To be fair, he was already a wildly successful businessman well before the price-fixing cartel was formed. And to all extents he is an easy target because of his success, but we are also entitled to ask of such men, Did he leave the world a better place?Mr Magic wrote:All I'm saying is that Pratt whilst guilty of many sins also did some good and was not the devil incarnate some would like to paint him.
You make price-fixing sound complicated. Does it require an agreement or understanding between competitors, or not?BTW, would you concede that Amcor is lucky they weren't the sponsors of Carlscum otherwise they'd be universally villified as the corrupt organization Visy is/was and they aren't/weren't?
