They have contracts in place for this to hapen EVERY year. It's not just about where they play, but who they play and when. But we could go on & on & on about Collingwood and the FIXture. When will we see them play home games against Freo, Port, Syd,WCE, Adel, Bris, MN & Melb in the same year? !!
So you want their draw to get easier by playing those sides. The point is interstate is overated if you are a good side and the pies arent on top because of only travelling 4 times. They didnt beat us by 8 goals because we had travelled 5 times to their 4. Surely.
There is also the financial side of things to consider. Much of Collingwood's wealth is generated because of the FIXture. They can afford more/better than most because of this. That in turn equates to them having an on-field advantage. The AFL aren't going to change any of that in the near future because they (collectively & individually) reap the rewards from this lopsided FIXture !!
With all due respect Eastern that's a crock of s***.

Collingwood has ALWAYS been one of the biggest supported teams in the country and the reason why is because they have a rich and powerful history. It has nothing to do with the fact that they have the most blockbusters in their fixture... they have these fixtures because they are a big side - always have been one of the BIG FOUR and always will.

Their on filed success is due to them maturing and growing as a team and finally being able to perform at the highest level.

The final step for Collingwood is to make this improvement in finals. We'll know on Sunday evening at about 5:30 PM on the 7th of September whether or not they have passed that barrier. Everything up until then is great for them and all but essentially meaningless in the grand scheem of things.

And they know it too.

Chicken and egg. But all clubs want games against Collingwood because of the crowds they draw, thereby increasing the gate takings, getting the prime-time TV spots thereby pleasing the sponsors.

Hardly a revelation ..

Ever done a tour of their facilities? The fact that they haven't had ongoing success on the field at the highest level for a protracted period is a fair dinkum (lovely) mystery of the ages. They have the best of everything at their disposal and plenty of change to burn...It makes me laugh when they exist in the same competition as North and Port and the like...especially as all the bells and whistles add up to a post intro draft record only marginally less woeful than ours.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

They are playing very well, but I still not entirely convinced....

I remember very well they had some pretty big injuries at the start of 2009 season, they dropped 5 of their first 8. They then went on to win most of the remaining weeks convincingly to the point that they were talked up as premiership contenders, probably could of finished higher on the ladder.

Their test is yet to come, and I am sure they know it....

100% agree. It is like Jockeys. The best get the best rides but how did they get the reputation of being the best. Simple they ride better than the others. The pies get the best fixture but only because everyone wants to play them. Why because they generate the most income.

There is a MASSIVE difference between playing a HOME game v Collingwood and playing an AWAY game v Collingwood. That is where the discrepency is. The ONLY clubs who want to play them as an AWAY game are Essendon & Carlton !!

When has he ever badmouthed the St Kilda Football Club?

Very poor effort Milan.

He never had the chance, he was too buzy helping Collingwood screw St Kilda over and his mouth was full of Collingwood money.

Well I'll try to articulate it a bit better for you;

Collingwood sell a lot of "18 Game Memberships". When those people attend AWAY games Collingwood hands over an ammount to the HOME club, as well as extra to the stadium. When they play HOME games the other club gets ZERO except Carlton & Essendon who have a "gate sharing" arrangement with Collingwood guaranteeing all three clubs huge windfalls.

If StKilda was guaranteed HOME games v Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Richmond & Hawthorn every year our revenue would be a hell of a lot higher than what it is now. That money could be ploughed into the footy dept, hopefully making us a better team !!

How does any of that win you games of footy? I have just been told that North have a better record than the Pies. Sorry to disappoint you but everyone wants to play them. I cant stand them but only for one reason I am jealous.

Sorry but it is the chicken or the egg.

Money can buy you lots of things. Luke Ball? Darren Jolly? Chris Judd?

Or Andrew Lovett. I would suggestmoney has nothing to do with buying players but room in the salary cap has everything to do with it.

What would be worse than Ball winning a premiership medallion would be him also winning the Norm Smith Medal, when he could have and should have done it with us last year. He is gone from us and playing at a club where which we all despise for different reasons, there should be no more motivation than that of not wanting him to get a premiership medallion. Nothing to do with personalities good guy, nice guy, bad guy, hard done by etc just an ex player playing with the opposition, why should any true Saints fan want him to have success over our own group.
