Fact: 7 wins will guarantee us the flag in 2010
If you were a St Kilda player and you were told that if you win the next 7 games, you would be guaranteed the club's 2nd premiership in over 100 years, how would you react? No 26 weeks, no preseason. You are in a position to win 7 games to win the ultimate prize in your sport. 28 quarters of the best football you can play.
Sounds simple?
We all know it's not.
But regardless of position, it's a fact.
We have worked hard to position ourselves to win the flag, without being in good form and our star player missing for a big part of the season.
Some teams in the above group are on winning streaks, we are not.
Some teams are playing their best footy right now, we are not.
So we have the chance to start a winning streak whereas some of the other teams may have peaked too early and the law of averages says that they are due for a loss or a slump. Maybe we have had ours.
Last year after Round 19, 6 wins would have won the flag, and we had won 19 in a row in supreme form. We then lost 3 out of our next 6. Maybe we peaked too early.
Coll, Geel and WB are all in that sort of form. Maybe they have peaked too early.
This year we can rise for a 7 game burst and peak at the right time.
We know how to win 7 in a row, we did it already this year.
If we win this week, then 6 in a row.
It's possible. It's in our players' and coaches' hands.
And it doesn't depend on other results.
We have beaten the three other teams in the Top 4 this year.
We can win with less, and so can other teams but......
.....7 in a row will WIN the flag, Saints!
Accidentally put it on the Gen Forum...oops

I dont see why any of the other teams are due for a form slump, unless you predicted ours ahead of timeMilan Faletic wrote: So we have the chance to start a winning streak whereas some of the other teams may have peaked too early and the law of averages says that they are due for a loss or a slump. if you want to look for patterns, the obvious one to me is that this year seems to be a mirror of last year. We went into last years finals with form dropping off, ditto 2010Milan Faletic wrote:Last year after Round 19, 6 wins would have won the flag, and we had won 19 in a row in supreme form. You dont mess with form, it builds confidence, gives you the edge, it gets you over the line when "the odds" suggest you shouldnt, and the only positive Im hanging on to at the moment is that there is a ton of improvement to come from this list at present.
Im with sydneysainter, the last month of the H&A is when you fine tune, and if coaches could find how to flick the form switch at will, they would as the saying goes, "bottle it".

And I couldn't give a flying root about percentage and winning margins.
A 1 point win will satisfy me at this stage......

We won NINETEEN in a row last season so a mere SEVEN straight should be a piece of cake.
For anyone who doesn't believe it, we ARE that good.
Ross, Roo, Lenny and every player need to flick the switch to ON this weekend.
In the words of America's first astronaut Alan Shepard (after taking a pee in his spacesuit, strapped into his Mercury capsule atop a Saturn V rocket containing 2.3 million kg of rocket fuel):
"LET'S LIGHT THIS CANDLE."

I did say that. Each win can be a tick off the list.Milan Faletic wrote:If we win this week, then 6 in a row.
I would also be happy with a win this week.
But the analogy uncomplicates things somewhat.
No mathematics or dependency on other teams involved. Just 7 weeks of the best footy we can play.
At our best, we can, will and have beaten everyone in the 8.

I'm smoking and drinking optimism. Last week is done dusted and over.thejiggingsaint wrote:If you HONESTLY believe that this gang could win seven in a row after what they gave us last friday...then I'd like some of what you're smoking/drinking!
After so many years of failure, sometimes we forget things like being 3rd on the ladder. There was a time when if we won the last quarter we would go home happy. Now we are slashing our wrists and we are two games off the top of the ladder with our destiny in our own hands.
I understand the anger and that's why I chose not to post immediately after Friday's game, but that is over. The ladder says we are 3rd and playing 4 teams outside the Top 8. If we don't win at least three of those, we are not worthy.
Then we are positioned exactly the way we were last year, with a home final. Roo, Baker and Gram will be going in to the Finals without the wear and tear. McEvoy will be in the ruck this time around.
My main worry is Kosi and I think it wouldn't hurt to get Stanley back in the side to give him game practice. If RL wants to make an impact similar to Dal Santo and Milne's omission, dropping Kosi will make a statement.
We have 7 weeks to turn this around. Collingwood beat Geelong by 90 points in 2007. We beat Hawthorn in 2008 and Geelong in 2009.
Don't give up. If it's a quarter at a time, that's fine, but it's time to back them. I'm pretty sure they want to win too.
It's their job, it's our hobby.

It could be a sign!!

Good stat.
So the streak begins on Sunday and ends some time next season.
Ah well....
I wonder if I should use my invisibility for fighting crime or evil?
