Should have played Shane Wakelin over Robbie Neill in '97

Good to see Geary out as I was hoping for.

Will teach the young boy a tough lesson and make him all the better for it.

Dumpster must be giving Lyon gifts or something.....weird that he's still in the side.

Get off Kosi's back.

Even if he's not much chop against the Hawks he'll get another gig IMO.

If we'd named others instead of Clarke/Dawson/Dempster, then Schneider surely would have kicked straighter.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

You have named 5 players...

How about naming their replacements :?:

IMO Peake has been good.

But again name 5 players to replace the ones you have stated
Excellent point

He said team selection had already cost us a premiership. I assumed it was '97.
I think Matthew Young was really struggling with a back injury. He was an awesome player for a couple of years.

If i remember robert neill only played 1 or 2 more games during that season. strange selection. This best 22 is bs.. kosi has been in best 22 because he was a 4 game superstar 4-5 years ago. wish they just selected just the players that are putting in great input and have form and confidence.

I think Dempster was kept in to play on Rioli, as Geary would probably struggle on Rioli. Dawson has to play because of Roughead, and the rest will sort themselves. Geary a little stiff.

If I was Geary I'd be more worried about when I get dropped every year.

2008 - 10 games, none after Round 19
2009 - 15 games, none after Round 19
2010 - 14 games, dropped for Round 17

Jarryn Geary has surely been dropped for his disposal. His endevour and decision making has been great and he goes in as hard as anyone, but his kicking is well below AFL standard at the moment. Hopefully he works hard on it at training and at Sandy and comes back a better player.

Agree, Geary played on Junior in the early part of last year's game down in Launny and made a mess of it. I think Geary has improved defensively since then but not yet enough.

Dempster, with Bakes out is unfortunately our next best.

A real worry tonight IMO.

I think possibly Dempster on Hodge and CJ on rioli. Dempster is a really flexible player -can play anywhere o.k. I love Geary's attack on the ball but he isn't quite as good with disposal and ability to adapt to a variety of roles. Gears should be back this season though, just getting team balance right.

As for Zac Dawson he has strung some decent games together and is much better than earlier in the year. Kosi is harder to defend at the moment but I will back Ross on his opinion of the situation. Stanley wasn't exactly setting the world on fire when he was in. Kosi plays in more dangerous positions and tries to take grabs. Rhys seems to want to punch rather than back himself to mark. Rhys will be a player just not yet.

Burgoyne is also bak in form and is fit...and he can really hurt you with his ball use.

So with Hodge and Rioli there are now three creativ ball users at the Hawks. So you might want to have the option of tagging two of them.

Maybe there is a specific 'run with' role identified in the Hawks team that better suits Dempster than Geary?

I cannot forget how well he played on Stevie J in the second half of the Rnd 13 game after Baker was injured.
Do the Hawks have a similar type player in tehir Forward line?

Or maybe he can play a similar role on Hodge?
Yep, will blanket Hodge IMO.
banket hodge. hodge will murder him. dempster cant even tackle. he just runs alongside blokes. id say the selection is more about giving a geary a rest rather than any planned roles for dempster.

noted in a couple of threads your dumping on Dempster in GF...

whilst he had a quiet game he played as a defensive HF on Mackie...

Mackie actually had one of his quieter games..........15 diposals...1 mark
did not provide a much run and carry/marking option as in games prior
Mackie went into GF in very good form.
