I don't either. However he can play a shut down role if required which not many of our blokes can do otehr than CJ.

Maybe there is a specific 'run with' role identified in the Hawks team that better suits Dempster than Geary?

I cannot forget how well he played on Stevie J in the second half of the Rnd 13 game after Baker was injured.
Do the Hawks have a similar type player in tehir Forward line?

Or maybe he can play a similar role on Hodge?

But CJ at least gets his own ball and offers something offensively as well....not sure what Dempster really offers to the team

I don't get it either... Completely perplexed.

And we drop Pattison who honestly has not been that bad for us. Has shown some good signs.... I would've left him in.... errr anyway...

I understand he will be given a role but our problem is goals and giving people run with roles but not getting the ball doesnt help us kick anymore goals. Sometime you just have to say f*** it and lets attack.

Yep, will blanket Hodge IMO.

I think Ross sees Dempster as the replacement for Baker.

Baker is pretty important to our setup imo...

Surprised that Geary got the chop though.

Hope he brings one because that may be his only hope.

lol dempster hasnt been setting the world on fire even when he was in the vfl. Yeah maybe he is doing a shutdown role. As far as McQualter I assume either his in the team to be a defensive forward or that fact that his just in the team because his part of the leadership group. Strange to change Pattison and Geary who have been trying (and not being the worse) with some players been called to be dropped for a few weeks.

True but how would the club have looked if they dropped him this week after announcing today they resigned him for another 2 years. :)

True, let's change our game plan completely, it hasn't worked so far

St Ick wrote:I don't quite understand Patto in our side, both he and Stanley can't kick the ball to save themselves, but so much more upside to Stanley as he is the future. I suppose Patto deserved his spot due to great form in the twos. We have Gardi and Mac already. With Koz back, thats enough in the way of BIG talls.

I don't like the talk of dropping Gram and Steven. I think Gram is one of the most important players to our side, he worked his way into the game on Saturday. Steven definitely does not deserve to be dropped, he's a kid with great enthusiasm, aggression, and loves a goal (mind you thats everything Army should be too).

I like Mini's defensive pressure, he isn't flashy, but he is important. BUT, if you were choosing out of Steven and Mini for that defensive small forward type role, I'd jump all over Jack for that selection.

I honestly believe Jarryn isn't showing enough, Dempster does well as he can play tall, is very versatile, but Jarryn would have to be the least likely to keep his spot.

Mind you, I'd love to drop Zac as my heart is in my mouth whenever he goes near the ball, you cant have a player so questionable playing on the last line of defence against either smart or strong forwards (as much as I appreciate his efforts - he just aint up to it).

So what I'd like would be:

IN: Goddard, Kosi
OUT: Patto, Dawson

but what will be more likely is:

IN: Goddard, Koso
OUT: Patto, Geary
I wrote the above in last weeks 'changes for rnd 16' thread, I was shocked last week when Mac and Dempster were initially dropped.

Good call this week I think, Patto did do some good things vs Collingwood, but most of his good things happened late in the second half, looked very ordinary when the heat was on early in the game.

Geary, well, he just doesn't show enough, and doesn't have the versitility that Dempster does. I think Dempster has Clarke's possie, and as soon as Raph is back he will be taking his spot - I just hope Raph comes back with the same intensity as he left with!

Safe to say, very happy with this weeks selections.

I'd say Dempster has been preferred due to his height for Franklin, Roughead

Dempster is'nt that tall. Just one of the coaches cobbers.

Me, I would rather be getting some games into Lynch of even Simpkin.
