Saintsational board is for St Kilda-related topics.
Opposition board is for topics relating to other clubs.
General board is for non-footy related subjects.
It's not hard to grasp.
Yeah, agreed...
seems like the new admin want to cut out some threads in order to save their viewing time on this site...
with posters leaving or not posting for some time, one would think their job is made easier in any case....
I was hoping for an extra one that includes all sports, but it looks like we are going for less....
I really don't understand why and if it goes to the majority (with less than 100 votes atm) so be it...
But I believe it would be a bad decision and my thoughts are to have more threads than less...
with so many posters either leaving or not posting one does wonder about player sponsorship next year IMO...
Yes, we need some improvement here, but deleting boards and joining them instead of creating extra boards is not the way to go IMO
Get rid of the Opp forum.
It's always been a waste of time Fid, and you know that.
Glad to see a debate and poll on it.
IF the Opp forum had a bit more traffic, then by all means keep it.
But it's had a few years in operation now, with little to show.
So why not merge it?
If we do merge it, it should mean only about a 20% increase in posts on the main forum - hardly causing too much clutter which it was orginally intended to prevent by creating the new forum.
I reckon another idea would be a trial, for say 3 months, of removing the Opp forum, and then reassess.
Just why get rid of it just because you consider it a waste of time???
Some posters post there so I really don't see any reason to get rid of it because you consider it a waste of time.
Fine if you don't bother posting on there, but again why get rid of it because YOU don't post in there
Again, I really don't see any positives in merging threads and I would welcome an "Other Sports Thread"
Posters can discuss other sports such as the Spring Racing Carnival, cricket, Commonwealth and Olympic games, soccer, tennis and many more sports.
This could also reduce the amount of abuse from posters during the off season which has been an issue for years.
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
Maybe we could shift "other sports" to mix in with the Oppo Forum, that way giving it the increase in traffic that some seem to think is so essential
That leaves the General Forum free for people to bicker about religion and politics, and middle-ages blokes to drool endlessly over pictures of girls that wouldnt go near them if their lives depended on it
Another argument in favour of the split is I believe it has reduced the number of trolls. Back in the pre-split days there would always be a couple of baiting threads like 'I hate Collingwood thiiiiiiis much' or 'Dale Thomas is a girly-man who plays like a girl'. People would post about which players they have a pathological hatred of and why. Then a few lurking opposition supporters would sign up, call Riewoldt a crying sook and then watch as we turned it into a ten-page epic. They'd get banned and not care, because they were never going to be long-term posters anyway.
I find it strange that the merge is so popular and yet the forum isn't. There's a place there right now for people to talk about opposition teams. So if people want to see those threads, why not actually go and make it happen? Too lazy to click 'back'? It makes no sense to me.

Not a bad idea......but as your research has shown, if it's good enough for "big" clubs (support wise) - Richmond, Essendon and Carlton, to have no Opposition forum, then why should it work better for a smaller club like ours??
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

The last time I checked was Talking Carlton had a Opposition Forum, but I have been banned from there and don't really know the current situation.
But from memory they have well over 10 forums on that site

I grant you that my research was done not being a member of any other site..like our General Forum some may be hidden to non-members

You have to be a member to see all the different forums they have, again I have been banned for life and cannot see all the forums they have

Thanks for the input King Cheap Shot.
Poster formerly known as SENsaintsational. More wisdom. More knowledge. Less name.

I like that idea a lot, s66au. St F was big on this too.

Rhymes with Thick Bread.
Perhaps we could call it the Drool Forum, just to keep you happy.
Australia...... Live it like we stole it....... Because we did.
oh look lets create/change something that has more grey areas
didnt we have probs with grey areas a while ago
people got all huffy when questioned about said grey areas?
bat and balled it?
yeah so lets have some important stuff on the main page but the lesser, not so important stuff over on the other side, and if people post opp stuff in the main site and its not really news worthy then it can just be moved over to the opp/sports area
brilliant idea
4 shades of grey
totally unorganized

What would we call it?
Opposition/Other Sports Forum?
General Sports/Opposition Forum?
Interested to know.
Didn't A0k suggest simply 'All Sports' forum?... maybe with the description including ' Opposition Clubs and all non-Saints related AFL'.

Like that too. s66au suggested that as well. Hey guess what, despite the quest to argue and be negative, we are coming up with a combination of good ideas. Amazing how constructive we can be when we put our weapons down.
So maybe the Opp Forum becomes the Opposition/All Sports Forum.
The Gen Forum is just for non sports issues, stories, jokes, anecdotes and current affairs.
If a non Saints story is big enough it can be posted on the Fan Forum and the mods will have the discretion to move threads.

How is that sounding? Nothing major IMHO.

that was sarcasm
i think its a totally stupid idea

Ahh the irony.
The lowest form of wit may have become the highest.
Your sarcasm might have brought you undone.
Now that's funny
