Good draw.

If we finish 2nd we'll have a six day break (QF v Collingwood on Friday night).

If we finish top we'll get an eight day break.

If we finish 2nd or 3rd (Pies 2nd) I think we would still play on the Saturday. Last year had an elimination final on the Friday night with the two qualifying finals on Saturday and Sunday. I'm sure that both Saints & Pies would be given a 7 day break.

The Elimination final on the Friday night was because three of the four qualifying finalists (St Kilda, Collingwood & Western Bulldogs) had played on the Sunday. They had no choice.

Both 2007 & 2008 began with a Qualifying Final. I think they like to give Channel Seven the Qualifying Finals. I'm expecting a Friday night match.

Not a chance. They only have done this in the past because teams playing elimination finals played on a Sunday or because the teams playing on Sunday had a qualiffying which meant the elimination final couldn't be played on Sunday.

I think. :?

Hmm looking at flights. The last flight i can find is Virgin Blue leaving 8:05pm, do you think that will give me enough time to get home?

Wow, the last three Qualifying on a Sunday. but this eyar, based on what's been offered, there's no need to have the second qualifying final on Sunday.

here's a worry though. All four Qualifying finals could be in melbourne. how would we get around that?! :?

If that happens the one against the interstate side will play at Etihad.

Would we rather play a final at Etihad or the MCG?
For me it has to be the MCG but I could understand others saying Etihad.

should be.
3.40pm game, you would be out of the stadium and in a cab to the airport by 6.45

Same day break if we play Cats, Pies, Dogs and Hawks and extra to Blues, Dockers (but travelling back from Perth)

Seems solid enough to me.

I reckon if the ladder finished as it is now, draw for Week 1 would be:

Fri Night: StK v Coll (MCG)
Sat Arvo: WB v Haw (MCG)
Sat Nite: Syd v Carl (ANZ)
Sun Arvo: Geel v Freo (MCG) (Small chance Etihad)

They'll try and avoid having 5v8 on Friday and 1v4 on Sunday because then the loser of 1v4 gets a 2-day shorter break than their opponents. This happened last year, only because 3 of the 4 week 1 finals involved teams who played on the Sunday in R22.

Here's a basic blueprint for what any week 1 will likely look like:

Fri Night: 2 v 3 (MCG)- Will almost certainly be Stk v Geel, Stk v Coll or Geel v Coll

Sat Arvo: If 2 Victorian teams are due in an Elim- they'll play at the G.

Sat Nite: If Sydney finish 5 or 6- mark down an ANZ elim final. If Freo finish 5th or 6th and Sydney don't- Freo will host a Sat nite Elim. If an elim is set to be Vic v Interstate, might be this slot at Etihad, especially if the other elim is Vic v Vic.

Sun Arvo: 1 v 4, at the G if all Vic but potential to be at Etihad if Stk or Geel play Freo
