I'd suggest that looking at a statsheet and seeing 10 seasons worth of numbers creates enough grey area that Blight is justified in his view, even if it turns out he's got the semantics of life membership wrong.

If we're all inferring, he might even be right... which is a bit of a scary thought, but has probably happened at some stage during his life.
