ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon has slammed the Brisbane Lions for unfairly physically targeting Nick Riewoldt in his comeback game.

After watching his side take a hard-fought 14-point victory at the Gabba last night, Lyon was fuming at the treatment of his captain whose frustration at the Lions tactic boiled over after the three-quarter time siren, sparking an all-in brawl involving every player on the ground.

the best thing they could do is revisit the baker case and come up with a more realistic penalty.

sounds like ross already has, though he is a lot more diplomatic and measured in what he says than me.

all one could ask for is consistency and there is something seriously wrong when a player gets 12 weeks without actually hurting someone.

Was absolutely thrilled with RL's comments tonight. Said enough without saying to much.

He also made reference to the 'melee' saying basically that if the umpires are not going to do anything, the team needs to stand up and defend the player. Dal was the first one in there which was good to see.

See Bomber, we can make comments about unfair treatment as well. Difference is, our players rallied around Roo, where YOUR players? Certainly not defending SJ. Maybe that is because he gave out as much as he received and initiated. See the difference?

Hopefully this will mean all eyes will be on Nick and his opponent next weekend. The accepted best way to stop it is to pay a free kick early as they have done that in the past. Hopefully that will happen next week if Harry O or whoever is on him starts all that rubbish.

Ross made a couple of measured comments afer the game, but to say he was fuming is a complete lie. To me, "fuming" would be the childish tirades you get from the likes of Malthouse or Clarkson. Ross never gets anywhere near that level of emotion in his post-game comments.

Agree. The print version is far more accurate than the online article. Ross was measured and deliberate and perfectly rational in what he said.
