Jimmy Gwilt moving forward
Obviously I am a fan
However I thought it's worth acknowledging that when he moved forward, he did it with his usual composure.
It had an instant effect on the outcome of the game IMO, wasn't sure where our goals were going to come from to be honest, but he attacked really well.
Kicked a goal, and played a part in three others with 3 assists.
Not saying he should play forward, just that without BJ to go where needed, he was able to and did it really well.
Just seems so comfortable out there, and is such a good footy story given where he has come from.

Jimmy was versatile last year and couldn't cement a place.Bernard Shakey wrote:Jimmy has cemented a place in the team by being versatile.
Jimmy has cemented a place this year by being a really good player, incredibly composed, good hands and kick.

Not bad for a Bloke from Noble Park.
Pretty amazing to think that there are players that come from private schools, AIS, TAC cup and other comps like SANFL, VFL etc: Get drafted in the first round or so and then go bust.
Then there is a bloke who played local footy, not even involved in TAC cup, gets drafted and showed promise early, and is now showing that he can be a good AFL player and perform consistantly.

agree. he presented well and gave us something. he's only just beginning to realise just how good a player he can be.SainterK wrote:However I thought it's worth acknowledging that when he moved forward, he did it with his usual composure.

Poor man's goddard.
He's got legs on him like a rhino. The shot on goal he kicked, he barely seemed to put any effort into it.
IMO coach should tell him if he's within 60metres of goal have a shot, psyche to opposition.

He played at CHF for the first 20 mins after half time and looked like a superstar. Then he moved into the goal square and disappeared without trace: he isn't tall enough and can't/ won't jump for the high ball.
I don't think he's a full-time CHF, but he's clearly worth putting there from time to time.
IMO, the key to his improvement this year is much greater fitness.
Go Jimmy!

Jimmy Gwilt has come on is leaps and bounds. In the last 12 months he's gone from fringe player to our "bottom 6" and now I'd say he's moved into our middle tier. He's now well and truly entrenched in our starting 18.
What I like about Gwilt is that he's so clean below his knees in traffic, takes the game on with his run, knows when to dispose of the football and is decisive with his long raking left too passes.

i agree with all of that. last night was his best game in the forward line. previously he couldn't make an impact down there, but the spells in the back line seem to have given him confidence and maybe also a better understanding of how to play forward.dcstkfc wrote:Jimmy was versatile last year and couldn't cement a place.

he's pretty close to our top ten players now, whereas last year i thought he was about thirtieth. says a lot about the virtue of persistence in a coach.

His disposal is good enough as is his build and decision making. It now comes down to how hard he can drive himself.bigred wrote:He has some moments that really make him look like he could go pretty close to the elite category.
Big call but he has the tools.

yeah i would halso have to agree. before last night, probably even going back to last year jore, whenever ross has sent him forward, very often he couldn't do the job, maybe its just confidence. but he was again good. and he got 2nd best in the herald sun, not bad for a bloke from noble park.bergholt wrote:i agree with all of that. last night was his best game in the forward line. previously he couldn't make an impact down there, but the spells in the back line seem to have given him confidence and maybe also a better understanding of how to play forward.dcstkfc wrote:Jimmy was versatile last year and couldn't cement a place.
