Three games clear of fifth
With 8 games to go and a soft draw, double chance looking almost a sure thing.
Great turnaround Saints.
Roo, Kosi, Gram, Raph and Bakes all to come back, things looking good.
While I'm at it here's what I think our best 22 is at the moment:
Baker Blake Gwilt
Gilbert Fisher Ray
Gram Hayes Montagna
McQualter Riewoldt Steven
Schneider Koschitzke Milne
Gardiner Dal Santo Jones
Peake Clarke McEvoy Geary
Great turnaround Saints.

Bakes will not be back and I would hope we don't need him in the team after 9 weeks out? Surely someone would have stepped up to take his role by then? If not we are in trouble!
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Hard body, experienced, finals experience, he's Steven Baker... he's the sort of player you want in the team.R. Harvey 3 votes! wrote:Bakes will not be back and I would hope we don't need him in the team after 9 weeks out? Surely someone would have stepped up to take his role by then? If not we are in trouble!
For example, suppose Geary is playing the same footy in Round 22 as he is now. Would you keep him in the team over Baker?

Easy now - I’m not so sure we have such a soft run home. There is Collingwood - love ‘em or hate ‘em, they play pretty good football at the moment. So a win is by no means a given.
Then there’s Hawthorn – have won their last 7 games, includes the Bulldog scalp. They play Geelong and Brisbane. Should win against Brisbane and will play us full of confidence. Again, a win is by no means guaranteed.
And then there is Essendon. You might laugh, but Essendon seems to be our bogie team. Lost the last two games against them, particularly last year when we were supposed to be unbeatable!
I wish I was more confident. Let’s hope my concerns are unwarranted.
Re: Three games clear of fifth
Fair point, but Dogs still have Scum, Freo and Geelong themselves, and Hawks have a very tough run home- Cats, us, Filth, Freo, Sydney away.GSG wrote:dcstkfc wrote:With 8 games to go and a soft draw, double chance looking almost a sure thing.

Scum still have Dogs, Filth, Freo (away), Essendon (bogey side), Geelong.
We're looking very sure I say.

Bakes will play in our 3 finals including the premiership winning Grand Final team. I'd also think BJ would be there.R. Harvey 3 votes! wrote:dcstkfc wrote:With 8 games to go and a soft draw, double chance looking almost a sure thing.

The relevant game is the Pies Game. They are only 2 points behind us.dcstkfc wrote:With 8 games to go and a soft draw, double chance looking almost a sure thing.
Lose that and the Top 2 position could be theirs.
The Pies too have a softish run home...

Bev, I respect your high standards, but we were never headed by a genuine trier after only switching on for about a quarter of football all toldSaint Bev wrote:No games are easy, tonight is a perfect example of that.
No one got hurt. We did it with yet another rejigged fwd line. We blew a few gimmes. Backing up from a wet, draining effort against Cats.
All that and we won by nearly ten goals in a game that was all about four points and nothing more.

Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I think we're all on that wavelength... I'm very coinfident about that one. We seem to have geared ourselves up for the big matches against big opponents and not really care about lesser opponents. Given Brisbane are at home, on our bogey ground (two wins EVER there) in the midst of a massive losing streak, I think next week is a HUGE danger game.saintbrat wrote:every time I glance past this "Three games clear of fifth" my visual perception says 'Three games clear of FILTH" and think If only.... or maybe When......
Even if we lose, I will be confident of beating Collingwood though.

Re: Three games clear of fifth
That cannot be right, Mick Malthouse has said they have the hardest draw in the history of fixturing of sporting events.saintsRrising wrote:The relevant game is the Pies Game. They did miss a lot of shots last time.Superboot wrote:Game against Collingwood is an 8-pointer. Probably need to win if we are to finish above them. They missed a ridiculous number of chances against us last time. Danger game.
That said if they continue to enter forward 50 like they did that night, they will continue to miss a lot of shots against the likes of us and Geelong.
Malthouse wonders why it is they miss so many shots, I don't, they continue to take the easy option entry, deep in pockets of flanks that result in low percentage shots at goal.
That said at the end of the day, we beat them on the back of a spectacular start to the last quarter for the rest of the game it was a knock em down fight for every inch nail biter. No question our A-Grade game is needed to beat them.
