Bitter opposition supporters
I have been effectively going to Saints games for 32 years and I've heard my share of bad language (and in the past probably used my share). I've been to games at Victoria Park in the 'bad old days' and copped abuse. The reason I've mentioned that is so you don't think I'm naive or easily shocked. BUT this year I've noticed a real nastiness and vindictiveness in many opposition supporters. Has anyone else noticed this?
A guy behind me tonight kept calling Milne a r%pist...he had obviously appointed himself judge and jury. He didn't even barrack for Geelong. I think he was just there to abuse Milne.
A young guy in front of us was saying the same thing but went further, continually taunting us about the premierships. Admittedly we had yelled "Go Gold Coast!" when Ablett had the ball. I did mention to the chap that over 20 years ago a certain Geelong player (allegedly) assaulted a woman and charges were never laid. My blood was boiling and I took the option of going downstairs to get a coffee and cool off. Thankfully later other people turned around and told him to shut up. By then I'd stopped engaging with the tool...I let the mighty Saints do the talking.

Yes
That would be a former Captain of Geelong.
A man who is in their team of the century, as is his father, and his name isn't Ablett.
He was a very dab hand with electric windows as I recall.
The club paid plenty of big dollars to keep it all quiet.
Very fortunate the under-age girl was in their cheer squad.

Exactly. I believe said player even engages in a little talk on the radio down here in sleepy hollow?
Not to mention the cloud that hangs over their (and arguably the games) greatest ever player....I remind any of the idiots of that fact whenever the Milne abuse gets too much. Kinda shuts them up a little.

Please...let's win a Premiership before GEELONG!!!! (O.k., so we've missed that opportunity...maybe let's win the next one before Geelong????)

Thanks for the support, boys.
As I said I've developed a pretty thick skin over the years, but some of this stuff really hurts. Plus I think it's pretty "suss" how the 2004 incident has suddenly been dragged up again.
The constant abuse of Kozzi as an overrated hack by the fat, balding bearded bozo behind me annoyed me too. Koz has played for 8 yrs at the highest level. His form's been a bit off recently but the guy gives his all and at least brings the ball to ground for the likes of Milney and Schnieder.
Getting back to the earlier matter, I do not wish to slander anyone on this forum. I'm just sick of the constant abuse of Milne. The idiot behind me said "If he played for my team I wouldn't barrack for him." What a fool.

Thanks Eddie for bringing that up after 6 years, well it didn't work I so feel for Milney, he just cops more than anyone and it can't be nice for his family who go every week. He doesn't deserve it. Just as well I live interstate, because if some jerk carried on like that around me, I would fair dinkum go off.

The same happened at the Freo game, supporters forget they are there to support their teams not put donw the oposition.
We had taunts to Gardner telling him to go and visit a local druggie here in Perth my response was to say he doesn't have time as we have a provate jet waiting for him.
Of course Milne cops it all the time too, last night the cheers outweighed to boos so you alll did a great job.

Thats a good point Michele, nothing wrong with some humorous banter, but some supporters forget that the opposition is secondary to supporting your own team.St Michele wrote:The same happened at the Freo game, supporters forget they are there to support their teams not put donw the oposition.

I get so angry when this stuff happens, the geelong supporters were calling milne and joey rapists near me trying to taunt them i lost it with them and yelled out drug puser to stokes it was not a smart thing to do but i get sick of stupid ******** abusing milne and joey.
So every time the idiot said anything to our players i brought up the stokes matter he informed me that stokes was found not guilty we guess what d*** H*** neither were our guys.
He didnt say a word about our guys after that i feel bad that i stooped to his standard but i get sick and tired of these people trying to bring us down either in the media or at the games.
I dont mind barracking even the having a go at our players if its footy related thats just part of the game but WHEN WE WIN THE FLAG we will be vindecated.
Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations.

When some sitting near me started on Milney, I turned around and asked, in a clam voice, whether they were planning on inviting Alysha Horan's parents to open the new Ablett Stand?
Not another peep out of them.
They're very quick and brave to throw it out there, but they just as quickly slink back into the corner when you remind them of their adored players' very real crimes.
Altogether a nasty bunch of supporters.
They also don't like being reminded that they have so many father/son players because other than shagging, there's nothing to do in their country town for entertainment.

I like your responce it was with a lot my dignaty then mine i just got my hot Saint blood that goes thourgh me boiling.
Well done!
A saints supporter in our area loudly declared that Milney had 'you know what' Geelong tonight just before the siren, think it was equally in bad taste and extremely poor form.
There are those kind of supporters from every team, including our own.
Had a nice chat with a Geelong supporter when I overheard him telling his wife that Jimmy Gwilt was BOG and had matured into a really good player.
Also spoke to two guys from Ireland that started talking how they were going for the Saints because of a certain Kerry star on our list to debut next year. I chirped in with "Go Tommy Walsh" and they assure me that he is a gun athlete of the highest order.
Good and Bad, it's all I'm saying

PS what I'm also sick of is we have just copped so much from every man and his dog this year.
So-called journos and newsreaders kept talking about the St Kilda Schoolg*rl S*x Scandal" repeatedly even after it was revealed the bloke who actually got her up the duff was a Collingwood player!
No doubt we'll also be blamed for a "boring" last quarter last night...
Well (getting a bit ahead of myself here) if that's the way the last quarter in the GF goes, I won't care at all.
I would LOVE it if Ross just completely shut down the game in the Grand Final...then wait to hear the whingeing from Walls, Blight and all other bozos. Who cares!

.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

I had an idiot behind shouting "Milne off Montagna on" like it was the wittiest joke in the world. Then Milne got close "hey Milne..." and just as he continued I blasted over the top "Onya Milne you're a champion mate". I was doing that at the Carlton game too. It mitigates and they don't get the satisfaction of getting their comment off. They give up after a while. Very enjoyable from my perspective - and it feels positive. And of those few Geelong fans having tantrums behind their goal at the end of game, taunting re last year's final, they should feel ashamed of that.

I think I was the guy who told that bloke to shut up in the third quarter. He didn't say a word after that. I have 2 rules when barracking at the footy. Yell at the game, not the other fans and try not to swear. I have only broken those rules twice in the last few years and both times were against Geelong. The thing that got me this time was that sack of cocks was making his comments at all the people around him instead of the game and when people told him to shutup he would reply with "what are you gonna do about it?"

If so, Offbe, thank you. Can't confirm or deny, would mean revealing my secret identity. Speak soon, must be on my way back to the stately Wayne Manor.........
PS I actually feel sorry for the guy now...he's got many years of heartbreak ahead of him. Geelong's on the way down.

I love peter kiel is spot on (was the guy in the formal wear ie trackpants?)
The bitterness, jealousy and anger towards us is everywhere these days.
People used to pity us and we were the 2nd favourite team. Pity has morphed into hatred. And it's a real nasty sharp hatred.

that sort of thing just turns my stomach!
If you want to have a crack about someone being a bad kick or missing a goal or whatever then fair game but to bring that kind of thing in is just wrong.
And like others have said glasshouse and stones!
I wouldnt blame anyone for reacting to that, it would have made my blood boil. I do love the idea of drowning them out with positive cheers.

While I sympathise with anyone who has the misfortune to be seated near obnoxious (so-called) "supporters" I think that its important to maintain a sense of balance and perspective. I reckon SainterK is on the money; "good and bad" indeed. I was at Kardinia Park in 2002 when young Ablett had just made the first team and some tool wearing Saints colours started sledging the kid about his father's drug addiction and the case of the young girl. To use this against the young guy was a low act in my opinion. On another occasion I sat close to a Mum and her two kiddies at the Dome when we beat the Cats for the Wizard wok in '04. The youngsters were obviously upset at how the game was going late in the 4th qtr when two drunken idiots in Saints colours began abusing them. I told these flogs to button up their gobs and then looked at the woman and shrugged my shoulders, "we have 'em too" was her comment. I can imagine that these two flogs were among those who booed T. Schwarze that same night.
