f*** its going to be soo good when we win that flag this year.Solar wrote:Yet the way it was protrayed by channel 9 and the Herald Sun that has lead to the majority of viewers and readers to believe that the players and/or the club had a hand in this. To have 90% of the images of the two saints players whilst the focus is on the police is a disgrace.St Fidelius wrote:The media have every right to televise this story.Stillwaiting wrote:Thats all true, but I am sick of the media using us as avenue to make this stuff up.bigred wrote:Jebus people...
Relax. If you are stressing about conspiracy theories then you are gonna go crazy.
The OPI are going to have a look into the investigation side of things...Which has nothing to do with us anyway.
If they find reason to re-open the case, then they will.
If they have a case to answer then they damn well need to answer it.
Simple as that.
I still see it as a piece of HACK journalism and in so many ways a slight against the club.
Channel nine and the Herald Sun can go forth and multiply as far as I am concerned.
It is NOT about the rape allegation, but more about the possibility of pervert the course of justice by current and ex serving members of the Victorian Police Force.
Both the players involved have provided statements and the Club have fully assisted with the investigation.
Simple as that.
I can't really say too much more
It will not only hurt the club, players and their families but hurts our brand too. All for some ratings.
P66 of course it's no suprise that they would run it, it's just how they went about it that is disgusting for all those involved back in 2004.
All these pathetic tossers will have to suck it up as the red, white and black take that cup.
The more they try to bring us down the more enjoyable its going to be!
GO SAINTS
Oh When The Saints Go Marching In.......

On a day when
7 Australian mining executives died in a plane crash
3 Australian Special Ops soldiers died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan
They re-hashed yesterday
s 'revelations', added in a bit about the Police starting an OPI enquiry, read out a statement from teh girl's mother
interviewed Gladman's partner Mike SMith, also retired who confirmed that Gladman had received telephone calls from another officer (a Saints supporter) adn that he too had received 'phone calls'
Finished the piece with
'of course CH9 doesn not in any way allege that Milne or Montagna are guilty of any crimes.
IMO, an absolutely disgraceful 'job' done on the 2 players and the CLub.

Amid all this talk of conspiracies, I remembered at the time of the malthouse debacle that eddie made a veiled and cryptic threat regarding st kilda and sleeping dogs (and we do all know eddie is renowned for his 'square-ups')... while trying to find it, I came across this interesting report from media watch in 2004....
http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transc ... 157379.htm
True then, true now.
Eddie are you kidding? :: 19/07/2004
Welcome to the show, I'm David Marr.
Tonight Media Watch focuses on the network that used to be "the one".
Let's take a look at Nine's conflicted Crown Prince, Eddie McGuire.
Good evening everybody and welcome to the Burswood casino in Perth. And this is The Footy Show.
-The Footy Show(AFL), Channel 9, 15 July 2004
Eddie McGuire calls himself a journalist, breaking big stories and telling it as it is on the Footy Show
A couple of weeks ago he raised allegations against St Kilda players first aired on Melbourne radio.
Eddie McGuire: Sam the Saints have been in the news again this week, they have indeed.
Sam Newman: What have they done?
Eddie McGuire: Well, there was a phone call into 3AW alleging some sexual misconduct apparently over the weekend and now we’re not here to be judge or jury or police or anything like that but its interesting that this story coming out of St Kilda is in fact that - my understanding is that there may have been two St Kilda players in the toilet at the time when a lady was in the toilet. We don’t know much about how, why or whatever.
-The Footy Show(AFL), Channel 9, 8 July 2004
Thanks for the grubby details Eddie, but here's the problem.
Eddie McGuire is also president of the Collingwood Football Club and as he was talking about the problems of rival St Kilda, he knew and said nothing about an unpleasant ruckus his own boys had caused that same weekend up in Mooloolaba.
The story was already out - also broken on 3AW - and within a couple of days it was all over the Melbourne papers.
‘Magpies fined over night on the booze’
‘Club pays compo after wild party at Queensland resort.’
‘Collingwood has paid a family compensation, fined its entire team and ordered players into alcohol education after a drunken night at a Queensland resort.’
-Herald Sun, 10 July 2004
When quizzed about his silence, Eddie confessed his first loyalty is to Collingwood.
The big issue on conflict of interest for me when I took over as Collingwood president was, would I use all those stories to further my career on the Footy Show? The Footy Show breaks the stories that we get through the department and we report accurately on everything that happens there. There is no conflict.
-Friday Night Football (AFL), 9 July 2004
Come on Eddie we're not talking about the club's finances but a night on the piss in Mooloolaba. You knew the story but told your audience nothing - and you say that's not a conflict?
3AW broadcaster Neil Mitchell who broke the Collingwood story slammed Eddie for trying to keep it under wraps.
Effectively he was saying to the players: you have been naughty boys but we will make sure it is all covered up nicely so nobody is too embarrassed by being seen as drunken idiots.
-Herald Sun, 13 July 2004
But much more than embarrassment is at stake here. Sunday Herald Sun columnist Jon Ralph pointed out we're also talking big money and nervous club sponsors.
'It goes to the very heart of Eddie’s conflict of interest’
‘John Ralph on Eddie McGuire’s Secrecy’
The sponsorship market is tightening by the day. In that climate, clubs will do all they can to lessen the fallout from the inevitable off-field dramas their players create.
‘When one club official can control that flow of information while at the same time scrutinising the misdeeds of other parties to their significant detriment, it becomes a relevant issue.’
-Sunday Herald Sun, 11 July 2004
And that's why Nine puts up with the conflicts that shortchange their audience - because Nine and Eddie share the deep down belief that the money comes first. Not just at Collingwood and not only on the Footy Show.

any evidence of the possibility of an alleged police corruption and suggestion that a possibility of charges of perverting the course of justice and that Nine News has the exclusive is relevant.
wake up!!!
All news sites have the stories that you have mentioned, but not this...

That says it all doesn't it. Maybe you should send that in to Ch9 or 3AW. Very damning of EM and that club.markp wrote:Amid all this talk of conspiracies, I remembered at the time of the malthouse debacle that eddie made a veiled and cryptic threat regarding st kilda and sleeping dogs (and we do all know eddie is renowned for his 'square-ups')... while trying to find it, I came across this interesting report from media watch in 2004....

Still no mention of anyone other than other police putting pressure on the people interviewed on Ch 9. It was also made clear that the two Saints boys are innocent, maintain their innocence, which is their right, and have not been charged with any crime.

Thankfully, the rest of Australia, and other news networks, live in the real world...the story has been reported, but about 7th cab off the rank. Not that police corruption isn't serious, but it's really a local issue.santazzi wrote:Would you believe, it was the leading story!

the OPI was chosen to oversee the Vic Pol in police corruption by the Labor Government...
It should have been more wide spread into the possibility of corruption of local councils and vic government and the labor government in their "wisdom" of chosen the Office of Police Investigation.
The OPI have not had a successful case to date, albeit one charge of a police member for a summary offence.
Yes, it is lead news and coming to election it is a major issue IMO.
FFS take the issue that it involves our Club and look at the performance of the government elected OPI...
They have done nothing since elected and have cost the tax payers heaps, let alone the big flowing Ferris wheel , the over costs of Southern Cross Station (that was meant to have tiled platforms), but over budget and chose to just have bitumen instead. The cheap thin plastic for roofing that was not hail proof.
The Mykey disaster....
I can go on and maybe this is not the right forum but, the OPI IMO is out come next election, they have only had one win in there history and it was a summary offence.
All that public money and it's just another embarrassment IMO.
A body that oversees any corruption within any government in Vic should be established...

SO why is 899% of the CH 9 story covered with vision of Milne, Montagna and the St Kilda FC emblem?
Yes, Police Corruption is a major news item.
But, IMHO, the CH9 (and subsequently the Hun) reporting of this 'news story' was a 'hatchet job' on the 2 players concerned (1 of whom has nothing to answer for in relation to the sexual assault charges)
It's not the story that has got so many posters on here upset, it's the way it's been presented.
The whole town is talking about Milne and Montagna and not about possible police corruption.
Even from the interviews by the 2 ex-detectives, there is no allegation that either player or anybody at the Club was involved in this 'coersion'.
Surely that's a clear sign that there is something wrong with the story's presentation?

The Hun has been running a picture of Milne in a hoodie looking for all intents and purposes like he's some kind of drug dealer...
FACTS: DPP sent brief. DPP recommends no charges sustainable. Milne and Montagna no case to answer.
Whatever the police did in the interim is the issue.
Nothing suggests that any evidence would have changed. Both player sgave statements. Both girls gave statements. What else could possibly be brought into the equation?
Why not run pictures of Paul Coughlan? Or Det Gladbags or whatever his name is?
And why is (apparently) our club doing 11/10ths of nothing in response?

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

What can they do, other than shut up and tow the politically correct line to wait and see. While going along with everything required of course.
What can they do...?
If they were to express outrage, like most on here are feeling, in regard to the media exposure at the moment, it could all look very poorly on the club indeed.
