Matter settled.
Just announced on SEN that confidential agreement has been reached.
Great news. All parties can now move on.

agree with RF, would be very upset if the guy got a good payout from the coffers... I'm hoping the AFL help with this as it's bulls***. The AFLPA and lovett have screwed us over big time IMO

I was really excited when he joined us and we could still use him in our team but he shouldn't be walking away with anything more than a year salary paid to him... and be lucky he's getting that.
The only people with any interest in Lovett in regards to the Saints, would surely be the lawyers.

Sometimes you just have to cut your losses.Solar wrote:agree with RF, would be very upset if the guy got a good payout from the coffers... I'm hoping the AFL help with this as it's bulls***. The AFLPA and lovett have screwed us over big time IMO
It "good" because it is resolved and so both parties can move on.
Look at all the marriages that end in divorce and where both parties refuse to move on.
Yes this will have cost $$$$$$$$$$$. But it would have continued to have cost $$$$ in legal fees even if we had fought it out and not had to pay anything more directly to Lovett.
We can now move on...and remember that Lovett is most likely to be in a rape trial. While this will still most likely involve St Kilda players it will be for the prosecution.
Very fortunately as it turn out he did mnot play 1 game for the club and so Westaway does not have to present him with a commemorative jumper!!!!!!!
Hopefully too the media will move to calling him an ex-Essendon player...

I would be very disappointed if we have paid this prick any more than a fraction of the first year salary he was going to be paid.
(Should have paid him pro-rate up to Xmas eve - no more).

Just guessing , but my take is ...
I recon we would have come out of it not too badly considering our blunder in signing him in the first place ( though our due diligence seems to have been hoodwinked by the Bummers in the washup)
We possibly wouldn't have been in as great a hurry to resolve it c/f Lovett
and i would think he took our basic offer of G300 in desperation
fool if he didn't 'cos we were holding the cards and the longer it dragged on he seemed to have more to lose than us
anyway good on the club for again taking a hard line
and yes for hell's sake.... he really can't go down in any history/record /whatever as a St Kilda PLAYER as such other than we signed him ( like quite a few others no doubt who never pulled on our jumper)

Yeah you probably right and I'm only guessing with a bit of wishful thinking and I'd be peedoff if the club settled for more than that to the plick!doggerel wrote:I doubt Lovett would have settled for $300k at this stage. My guess is $500k. At that price both parties could walk away and think they could have done worse.

Was listenening to the radio on the way home tonight and it was mentioned the settlement figure was believed to be between 200 - 300 000 dollars ....
Was also mentioned that this episode is far from finished as there could be a hearing around finals time where up to 5 Saints could be called to the witness stand re the rape charge ......
