to save me saying it again, here's what i said on another thread

we were magnificent in that game, with Gardiner's heroics sealing the deal inside the last two minutes.
if should be required viewing for all the players ... just to remind them of what they are capable. we need to make the top 4, and then reproduce that type of form and intensity throughout september.
we deserved the flag last year. we were the best team the whole season. but that's life.
if this group wants a premiership, they need to turn it on in the next month.

Maybe we peaked too early and were fading towards the end of the year.bigcarl wrote:agree.jonesy wrote:Our tackling pressure and intensity from last year to this year is light years apart on watching this game. We played like that for 2/3rds of last year...this year we just haven't be able to recapture that magic, and we are no hope unless we do.
We did have over 120 tackles in the GF and still lost.
Our think our midfielders are all playing better this year but we are not as relentless. We had this phenomenal percentage but again lost the GF.
Makes me wonder whether we are just positioning ourselves under the radar a little and then hopefully make our burst in the Finals.
We are also without the No 1 player in the competition and last year's real Norm Smith Medallist.
Maybe if we fire in the 2nd and 3rd/ thirds of the year, we may peak at the right time. After Geelong got beaten by Brisbane last year, a lot of people thought they were gone.

I didn't notice at the time how biased one or two of the commentators were
and they praised almosts - possessions- by Geelong
tough contest and they only mentioned Cats players- nothign about the fact that the saints were also there battling in the same situation.

in the meantime, we still need to make sure we're positioned to finish top four, preferably top two.
what we don't want is 1) not to have the double chance and 2) to have to play fremantle in an interstate preliminary final (although I would still like our chances at full strength and intensity).
the next month, against good teams, will be particularly telling.
our ability to consistently kick winning scores against quality opponents remains the concern.

I noticed the same thing.
I feel sick after watching it. We were the best team by far last year.. I want to vomit.

Granted we lost the GF,but we did everything right apart from kick basic goals. Out of the numerous sitters we missed,we probably only needed 1-2 more to break them, thought they were 1 goal away from breaking a few times. We kicked half of the sitters we missed,we win comfortably, and I'd still be hungover...Milan Faletic wrote:Maybe we peaked too early and were fading towards the end of the year.bigcarl wrote:agree.jonesy wrote:Our tackling pressure and intensity from last year to this year is light years apart on watching this game. I recorded it on IQ,so I'll watch that bit again...but did he pay holding the ball against Milne? If so, that is the worst free kick in the history of the game and surely highlights the bias they have against Milne.wasaintsfan wrote:that free against milne was a joke.........

Funnily all you heard all week after it was about the advantage play on decision...but that Milne decision, fair dinkum insipid

I missed this last night. But the replay is on again today on Foxsports1 at 11am. I'm home sick from work today so will be lying on the couch watching this for the next two hours

Definately. I'm watching the game being replayed again on fox now. Riewoldt just took that great mark in the goal square in the first few minutes...awesome.joffaboy wrote:Nice to see the Saints No.12 running about.

milne was tackled without ball and ripped to ground. Holds arm on way to ground to make sure op goes down with him. Holding man against milne... Couldnt been holding ball or throw. Never got it. Was after gardis big mark. Also the trip on lenny that the commemtators call a good tackle. Rest i dnt care. 2 most crucial in game.
