"Which brings us to the matter of the greats of yesteryear still awaiting formal recognition.
There are dozens of them, all needing someone to champion their cause.
I sat on the selection panel from its inception until this year and left disappointed that four or five remain out in the cold.
They are Geoff Raines, Wayne Johnston, Gary Buckenara, Alastair Lynch and Trevor Barker."
.."Trevor Barker's elevation to the Hall of Fame would be football's ultimate feel-good story.
He was a hero in life and death, taken by cancer in his 40th year.
Barker deserves the accolade. He was incredibly brave and talented and exciting, and his loyalty to St Kilda was inspirational, if costly to himself.
There won't be a dry eye in the house when Barker's time comes, as it surely must."
...there is a spot on line where you can vote.....

This may sound disrespectful - to Millane, and I don't mean it to be. But seriously one died in disgrace, the other died with dignity and courage. If Barks had died at 26yrs of age at the peak of his powers his standing would probably be elevated even further in the game as well. It's almost insulting that Collingwood supporters feel the need to jump online in masses to glorify this bloke.

I also don’t want to sound disrespectful however Millane’s profile has been, IMO, exaggerated by the fact he played for the filth, the fact he had the ball in his hands when they finally won that drought breaking flag and by the infamy of his death.
Much like Jimmy Dean who, from all accounts, became a greater actor following his infamous motor vehicle death.
We all vote for our own and Collingwood have the most supporters so the polling really comes as no surprise. But really, Millane ahead of Barker? C’mon!!!
I suppose if the Collingwood option was James Manson then Jimbo would be heading to the hall of Fame as we speak.
He's not anymoreStillwaiting wrote:Well I voted to, but it is dissapointing to see Milane ahead

bit like the Pies pushing for Lou to be made a legend
the rules have always been that a Legend must be a player or coach- not a journalist or administrator from what I can gather
Lou is already a hall of famer but does not qualify.

Just voted for Barks
I know this is ignorant of me but is Jack still alive
Would be lovely of the AFL to recognise his son as a member of the Hall of Fame before he dies.
I only met barks once when i was only about 8 or 9 but have met jack a couple of times when playing cricket around the area.
He is truely a lovely man and i imagine nothing would make him prouder
