Jesse W Smith Only a matter of Time
I dont think we understand just how good this bloke can be. When I heard he was out of the Roos I hoped that hed somehow get to us. This bloke would walk into any starting 18 in the AFL when fit and has been described as elite.
How nice would it be to have him come in about Rond 12 and add to our class across halfback and the midfield. From what Ive heard its only a matter of time before hes in the side. Just that bit extra we need going into finals.

The VFL had a bye....PJ wrote:Obviously still sorting out his issues - I'd just like to see him getting a regular run in the 2's before we go all gooey about his potential.Did not play...
If Jesse Smith gets back he is more than useful player coming into our team for the second half of the year. Big IF thought considering his long history with injuries.

Exactly;saintsRrising wrote:He has played two part-time games.SaintSimmo wrote:i reckon two-three weeks before he makes the side, hasnt he already played 2 games in the vfl?
Lets see what he is like after he has played a series of full games.
He's coming from a long way back, injury wise and is by no means across the line yet with his return to the game !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
That plus he isn't a walk up start until he starts to dominate, no point picking him for the sake of it, jumbling up the team chemistry.Eastern wrote:Exactly;saintsRrising wrote:He has played two part-time games.SaintSimmo wrote:i reckon two-three weeks before he makes the side, hasnt he already played 2 games in the vfl?

When you say jet, is he quick? What are his best attributes?Dr Spaceman wrote:Yes from all reports he is a jet.#1GILL wrote:He is a jet, make no mistake
I still remember watching his game against the Hawks in the 07 semi in complete awe of this bloke.
However having looked at his maintenance records, we just have to hope his engines don't fall off mid-flight!

I hear they ran out of wine at a Saints function and Jesse said "no worries", waved his hand over a bucket of water and the wine was flowing again.
I also hear that President Obama regularly rings him for advice.
Oh, and they've also got his spot in the AFL Hall of Fame set aside already for when he retires......
Sheesh!!

Pace, kicking, decision-making....he has got the lot.dcstkfc wrote: When you say jet, is he quick? What are his best attributes?
Hopefully his injuries haven't affected the first two.
If he can come good....he will be an absolute A grade bonus.
Still a fair bit off it at the moment though.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it......no I don't want to read about it anymore!!!

Here is a little of what was said about him when he was first drafted, in Burgatron's Phantom Draft:
42 - KANGAROOS - Jesse W.Smith
(Calder Cannons), 29 September 1986, 187cm, 78kg
The Kangaroos are delighted to secure the son of Ross, who played 224 matches for the club from 1984-96, via the father/son rule. Jesse was widely regarded as a top-10 selection, before he was snapped up by the Roos. Smith had an outstanding season in 2004, winning the Michael Larke Medal for the best player in division one of the National Bank's AFL under-18 championships. He also gained All-Australian selection for his carnival, which included fine performances against Victoria Country and South Australia. Smith was also named on the half-back flank in the TAC Cup team of the year in 2004. He is a natural talent, possesses fine courage and a work ethic to match.
And here is what was said about him by Michael Torney, in the 2007 "End of season review: Kangaroos", on Big Pond:
"Next big thing: It's exciting to think that Jesse Smith, who finished sixth in this year's NAB AFL Rising Star award, was only a bit player in the Roos' gruelling pre-season training regime due to ongoing issues with an old ankle injury.
The ankle problems behind him, Smith simply oozed class in his 19 matches throughout the year. His 27-possession best-on-ground effort in front of 75,000 people in the first semi-final win over Hawthorn was the highlight in a simply stunning breakthrough season."
